Description:

The Araluen Cultural Precinct is home to some of the most significant...

The Araluen Cultural Precinct is home to some of the most significant artistic, cultural and historical experiences in Alice Springs and provides a unique visitor experience, encompassing Central Australia’s key cultural institutions and collections. In its four galleries and 500 seat theatre, the Araluen Arts Centre presents an annual program of exhibitions, theatre, and film.

The Araluen Galleries showcase the beginning and continuing development of the contemporary Aboriginal art movement, particularly of the Central and Western Desert. The Araluen Art Collection includes significant original watercolours by Albert Namatjira in his artistic response to the Central Australian landscape.

A “keeping place of stories”, the Araluen Cultural Precinct offers a rich experience set amongst important Arrernte sites significant to the local Arltyerre (Dreaming) including yaye (Big sister hill), yaye akweke (Little sister hill) and a sacred 300-year-old corkwood tree.

Visited the precinct today. Lunched at the cafe which was beautiful, then visited the Art Gallery which had two interesting visiting displays, plus local aboriginal art. We then visited the museum which included local geology, animals, and a background of AGH Strehlow, whose research centre was next door. Then a very quick visit to the Aviation Museum. We had run... Walking through Alice Springs, on a nice day with blue skies, not sure what to do. I walked past a classic building called the "Residence", it was well preserved. After walking out of the Todd Mall, you come across more historical buildings which have great significance for Alice Springs and also honour a great Australian, who worked mainly in the... More

Very good Arts Centre, alst theatre. They show Aboriginal Art. When I visited it there was also an holographic photo exposition with stories about aboriginals. On the same spot is also an aviation museum. You can easily spend half a day there.

The cultural precinct is a group of attractions in Alice Springs including museums and a gallery. A precinct pass gives access to everything. We spent much longer there than we expected to and sadly didn't have time to see everything. There was an outstanding exhibition of art from a recent competition as well as items from the permanent collection. The... More

We visited during the Beanie festival and took the time to have a look around the whole of the Precinct. Loved the art gallery and the museum. Well worth a visit.
