We started out at about 4PM from the car park and followed the trail through the desert park, eventually getting to the summit at about 5 30, in time for sunset. It is quite tough going, especially as it was still hot at 4 PM,...More

Mount Gillen is gorgeous scenery and even better to climb. Was a challenging hike up for low endurance but enough places to rest along the way. There would be some incline for a bit and then flatten out long enough for you to catch your...More

Nice challenging (ish) hike with some rock climbing to keep you interested. Beautiful views from the top. Definitely worth going try to aim around sunrise.

Pick your time of day for this one. We started around 6am to beat the heat and it paid off. The walk is not sign posted, so walk past the front of the John Flynn memorial on the Larapinta Drive side and you will see...More

The hike took around 1hr up and 40min back. The start point is John Flynns' Grave, 10min out of town ($20 in a taxi). Highly advise PLENTY of water and good hiking boots - most of the walk is not on smooth path but on...More

This was my favorite thing to do do in Alice so far and I'm surprised it's not higher on the list. There isn't any mountain as high that is nearly as doable as Gillen in the area. The hike and boldering-like climbing can be done...More

This is not a climb for those who are not sure footed or reasonably fit. Has some very steep slippery gradients with a final small cliff face to climb which can be very dangerous if you were to slip coming down. The path to the...More

Right in the middle of the Red Centre sits Alice Springs. A little outback ''city'' with all the mod cons you would expect to find on the coast. It is surrounded by the West McDonnell Ranges which form a backdrop for this great little outback...More

Early start, but should have been earlier - takes about 45mins to complete the climb (and it is a climb, you need to be pretty fit to reach the top). Sunrise was 6.30pm but gets bright about 6 - recommend you be there at least...More

Excellent views over Alica and beyond. The walk has a challenging final climb but well worth the effort.
