I can see it from my daughter's house as it's part of the MacDonnell Ranges running from east to west at the southern extreme of Alice Springs. Every so often I drive to The John Flynn Memorial with daughter's dog and walk round the bottom of Mt Gillen. You can climb to the top but at this time of year... More

Mt Gillen offers stunning breathtaking views of australias outback! Climbing to the top can be challenging due to the locals and the weather. But if you can manage, its worth visiting

Climbed up Mount Gillen with work colleagues tonight. Not sure why I didn't click that it was a) going to be a climb or b) actually a mountain but it was definitely worth it. One of our group stopped about halfway up but from there it actually got a little easier. Make sure you're wearing exercise clothes that you don't... More

I was shocked when my husband informed me we were climbing to the top of the summit of Mt Gillen but it was worth every step and every rock we climbed and scrambled over. The 2.5 hour return trip was satisfying and not to be missed if you have a good level of fitness. Take trekking sticks with you if... More

Mt. Gillen is about 10ks west of Alice Springs. This unsignposted walk is spectacular which took us to the summit of Mount Gillen. It is a steep walk beginning at Flynn's Grave car park. It was worth the effort when we reached the top!!! Allow a couple of hours to enjoy the outback experience.

Regardless if young or old, you must be fit to complete this climb as it was a lot more difficult than what was indicated to me. I was with a group of 7 that started with only 3 managing to get to the top. Some easy bits but there is some pure rock climbing that stopped some of our group.... More

We rode bikes out to mount Gillen. Was an easy 7km ride out there. There are bike tracks to whole way. The walk starts about 100 west of the Flynns grave landmark The track is a scramble towards the end, very well worth the effort. You can see for miles .. Or Kms which ever system you use. It's spectacular.... More

Climbing Mt. Gillen is a must for a visitor or a local to Alice. Parts can be challenging, but well worth it.

Get up early. Grap a torch. You'll need it. About an hour hike if you're moving well. Flat path, turns to rocky path, turns to steep rocky, turns to 4 meters of rock climbing. Bring a jacket gets cold and windy. Not for young kids
