The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. Il Porcellino is a nice touch! It stands in front of Sydney Hospital, on Macquarie street. It is a gift from Florence and symbolises a lovely link between the two cities. This sculpture is a replica of the original, in Florence. Donations go to the Hospital. Worth a stop if you are passing by.

In the now defunct department store Strawbridge & Clothier there is a replica of this beloved piglet.
As a child I looked forward to rubbing his nose and dropping coins into the fountain.
I imagine this is where some of my luck has come from during my life time.

Located on Macquarie street outside the hospital is this bronze statue that brings luck if you make a donation, it is actually a replica, of a statue in Florence, that serves the same purpose

One thing, that the other reviewers were missing, that for that good luck isn’t enough only rub the nose of Il Porcellino. In the text, next to the statue is the instruction, that
"If coins are dropped into the fountain, or donations are put into the box, legend says, that if you rub the nose of the boar, you’ll be endowed with good fortune. All donations will care for the sick in Sydney Hospital” So, you have to donate, and rub the NOSE. Since another body part of the boar is also shining, shows, that fun lovers were rubbing it as well. Sorry, but no good luck with that.

The sculpture is an exact replica of an original by Pietro Tacca which has stood in Florence, Italy, since circa 1633, and is given the local Florentine nickname il porcellino. It's down the street from Hyde Parks Barracks.

This good luck piece is located out the front of the Eye Hospital, directly opposite Martin Place. The snout of the boar is where visitors seek their luck, as it is a different colour due to the amount of rubbing.

Outside Sydney Hospital, a gift from an Italian lady, as a memorial to her Father and brother, who were eminent doctors.
An exact replica of the 1547 original in Florence.
Good luck to rub the nose and leave a coin for the hospital.

This was right in front of the hospital and was a surprise to find this. It's easy to take photos. We were the only people there.

The Wild Boar Fountain of Good Luck is outside the Sydney Hospital, on Macquarie street, just inside the front fence, but easily accessed. It is similar to several other such boars, in European cities, particularly in Italy. Its name is Il Porcellino and visitors are invited to rub its nose for good luck, and also make a donation for doing so. Donations go to a good cause. Nice enough attraction, particularly for tourists.

Located outside the old Sydney Hospital building on Macquarie Street this bronze statue is popular with tourists and locals alike who rub its nose for good luck. Quirky statue but worth a visit.
