About
Barangaroo Reserve is a six-hectare re-imagined Sydney Harbour headland that sits above a spectacular cultural space called the Cutaway. Named after Barangaroo, a Cammeraygal woman who was a powerful voice in the early days of colonial Sydney, the reserve is rich in Aboriginal and cultural history and remains an area of great significance for Australians across all cultures. As well as providing spectacular new views of Sydney's iconic Harbour, Barangaroo Reserve features more than 75,000 native trees and shrubs, extensive walking and cycling trails, idyllic coves and picnic spots. The park also glories in rock pools created from the 10,000 blocks of unique Sydney sandstone excavated directly from the site during the project.

We went to the official Website for the reserve and booked into the Aboriginal Cultural walking tour. It was excellent. Our guide Tim had a wonderful knowledge of the site, both the old and contemporary. He introduced us to many of the plants on the site and explained how they were used by the locals for fishing, hunting, weaving and food. It was a wonderful 2 hours walking around much of the reserve as he patiently answered our many questions, and left us wanting for more.

We enjoyed wandering through here on a beautiful summer's day. I have to admit that they have created an amazing place to visit right on the harbour. There is so much to explore through the various levels and by following the maze of paths. The collection of advanced trees and shrubs gives the illusion that this place has been here for many years, instead of the short time it has been here. Certainly worth a visit.

My daughter and I really enjoyed the Aboriginal Cultural Tour. I am sorry I can't recall our excellent tour guide's name, but she was a young lady with long red hair who told us so much about plants and aboriginal culture. She conveyed her love of aboriginal culture and history as well as connection with others in an inspiring, informative walk.

Barangaroo Reserve is a wonderful park in the city. The area has a long history, specifically relating to the Indigenous Australians. This also explains the name of the Reserve which has been taken from a very important Indigenous woman of the local tribe of Cammeraygal, who was one of the most influential voices of the local indigenous people in the early days of colonisation in Australia. The park is in a great spot and offers spectacular views all around. It is also excellent for a walk or a jog or just for a time of reflection!

Wonderful new park in Sydney. Beautiful walks along the shore. There is even a small swimming area. You can walk up the hill and there are great views from there. Lots of native plants and beautiful enormous rocks used in the construction. Popular with runners and joggers.

Spent some time in Barangaroo Reserve walking and chilling out. The walking, cycling tracks and gardens are immaculately kept. There are benches to sit on to enjoy the peace and quiet looking over the water.
There is a public toilet on the edge of the reserve on the bridge side.

Barangaroo is a large, 6 hectare open parkland that runs along the foreshore of Sydney Harbour.
The best thing to do here is the Barangaroo Foreshore Walk. Starting from the Wharf Bay area, it follows the coastline, linking up with Darling Harbour. I just love this walk especially on a sunny blue-sky day, when the water sparkles.
The walking paths are wide enough to accommodate pedestrians, runners and cyclists. It’s a very easy stroll along flat paths. The paths are paved in some stretches and gravelly in others, making it suitable for pushchairs. Small kids can safely ride their little bikes and scooters here also.
When we walked this path recently, a seal swam beside us, following us most of the way. Very special.
The main natural features at Barangaroo Reserve include the new Marrinawi Cove swimming enclosure, Stargazer Lawn and The Cutaway, a cavernous exhibition space cut out of the sandstone cliff (currently closed while it’s being redeveloped).
As you get closer to King St Wharf, you will see the controversial but striking Crown Casino building. A whole string of waterside restaurants and bars run along here and you are spoilt for choice.
TIP:
An excellent way to get something extra out of Barangaroo Reserve is to book the Aboriginal Cultural Tour. I’d highly recommend it. I did it some years ago and still remember it. Perhaps the most interesting part was being shown all the different ways the native plants were used. Some were rich sources of food, but others had unexpected uses like being able to stun fish or make soap. We gained a wonderful insight into indigenous food, culture, and history.

After exploring many options to view the NYE fireworks , we zeroed in to this place for reasons : 1) We don't have to queue from dawn to secure a decent place. A couple of hours early can give you a place with a good view.Plus, anywhere in this place gives you a good and close view of fireworks 2) Though it is not free, the entry fee is pretty much ok (30AUD). 3) A very clean place with nice party mood. This place covers a full view of the bridge but you can't see the opera house. The fireworks are very close. They managed the whole event very well and you also have the option to pre-order your food/picnic. Besides the NYE, i guess this park is very beautiful to spend sometime in the evening. It is bit of a walk from Wynyard station.

Not only is this reserve a stunning retreat in the heart of busy Sydney, they also put on a fantastic NYE party. Tickets are only $30 and you can either take your own packed picnic, pick up a pre purchased packed picnic or buy from food trucks.
Live music and unobstructed views of the fireworks. Definitely the best place to be.

This is a beautiful area, just to hang out in, the foreshore is a lovely place just to hang out, there is a protected natural swim area, and plenty of places to enjoy a picnic.

How much is the price for a bottle of wine at New Year’s Eve? And how much for glass?
And what is the price of the food?

Hi. We're planning on being in Sydney for NYE this year. How good are the views from Bangeroo Reserve, and do you have to get there early to get the good views? Any tips would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, Barangaroo is a ticketed vantage point and you would need to book tickets now to secure a place. I suggest that you go to the sydney new years eve web site and go to Vantage Points, then Barangaroo and you will find a link to buy tickets. When you have a ticket, you won't need to go as early as the free vantage points. Views are good and food and drinks are available, but you won't be allowed to BYO. There is a capacity of 12,000 people, but the area is quite large and I have no doubt it would be a comfortable view.
There are no pass outs, so once you're in you have to stay in.
That area is managed and has security, so it is safe as well.
