It’s a lovely park but the gates close at 5pm even in summer! I live reasonably local, so if you want to go for a walk or walk your dog after work, 5pm does not give you time to use the park. I find it hard to believe an attraction of this size closes so early. Typical Blacktown council service.

Always enjoy visiting Nurragingy Reserve. Really love the Chinese Garden - makes a fantastic backdrop for wedding photos. Always disappointed that the cafe is shut when we have been there, even on days when it is advertised as being open. This year, the drought meant that the water in the lake was very low, which was a shame, especially for the birds.

The formal area in the east has rolling hills and lakes, one with a small but nice Chinese garden around it, and generally good facilities. Then it gets into bushland to the west that they want you to drive to - pedestrian paths and areas are very muddy (days after rain) and broken up by roads. It can be nice out there though and there are picnic areas and you explore the mighty Eastern Creek. You can walk in easily from Doonside station but I came from the south and it was less pleasant. After crossing the actual Rooty Hill, I walked east along Eastern Road past the sports park, then turned next to Eastern Creek where there seemed to be a marked path. The path under the railway was very muddy and it looked like the park was locked off from here but there did seem to be a deliberate gap between fence posts that I fit through. The path just east of here next to Charlie Bali reserve might be better but this area really need better walking paths.

We spent a lovely few hours wandering around the park with our family and friends and what a peaceful place it is. There are many beautiful plants and landscapes to enjoy and if you are feeling a little peckish pop into the cafe as the vegy spring rolls are the best I have tasted
