Neighborhood: Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.

Sydney's Sigil

This is probably Australia's most recognizable building. Even little children all over the globe know the Opera!

A True Must See
Feb 2020
Sydney Opera House, to me, is the finest example in the world of 20th century architecture (admittedly a low bar). People will be visiting this 500 years from now and will still admire it for its beauty, grace and style. A fascinating story of how it was designed, redesigned, and finally resulted in this outstanding structure.

I took a tour during the day and saw Don Giovanni in the Opera theater. The tour was fascinating, but I recommend reading up on it before you go. The attention to detail and the craftsmanship are amazing is such a relatively new structure. They obviously take great care in maintaining and upgrading the facility.

The opera was a first class performance. The acoustics were wonderful, as was the staging.

Two heads ups: they say come as you are for the Opera. It is true there were tuxes and there were blue jeans, but i did feel under dressed without a coat and tie. (No choice: no room in the suitcase during my 21 day adventure). Also, only beer and wine during intermission. :(

It couldn't have been better !
Mar 2020
When Holland America cancelled the Opera House tour, I made friends with Opera Australia. The minute single tickets to Carmen became available I jumped. Four tickets, fifth row dead center. The performance couldn't have been better. The voices were superb ! Acting flawless even down to the children. They sang and acted wonderfully. What a beautiful place, what a wonderful performance, how could it be better. Thank you Opera Australia, long may you wave.

Gounod's Faust Opera
Mar 2020
This performance of Gounod's Faust was equal to the astounding beauty of the building's architecture. The sets, costumes, production and vocal talent on stage were superb. An experience of a lifetime.

A Night at the Opera
Mar 2020
We saw Faust last night at the Sydney Opera House. Although our seats were way in almost the last row of the stalls, we had excellent views and the acoustics were excellent. The opera was well performed by both the orchestra and the singers. The costumes and scenery were wonderful. If you're coming to Sydney, going to the opera here is a must.

Where’s wardrobe and makeup?
Mar 2020 • Couples
Beautiful stunning venue. Volume of orchestra was too low - show off that talent. During the first half, the performers were also quiet. Now I get that it’s hard to find a complete package to play Carmen but what about hair extensions, sultry makeup and stunner dresses for Carmen. There were several times the background players upstaged her visually. Help her out - wardrobe and makeup. Don Jose stole the show.

Also I ordered and paid for an intermission beverage. What chaos! People were just grabbing glasses of wine. I guzzled a full cider in 5 minutes. Yikes. Never recommend that to anyone.

We also found substantially cheaper tickets online than those offered at the box office. Staff were not very helpful.

But certainly you must experience an opera or another favourite production at the Sydney Opera House.

Carmen at the Opera House
Feb 2020 • Couples
We had a wonderful evening at the Opera House and the whole setting was magical. Sadly the opera did not live up to its surroundings. The staging was not very imaginative and Carmen herself was not the sultry temptress you would expect. Despite this we did have a wonderful night and would thoroughly recommend it.

Freezing cold and thirsty!
Feb 2020
It was in summer. It was so cold inside that we had to abandon in the middle of the spectacle! And do you expect a glass of champagne for free in the coffee break?! NO, NOTHING! In Vienna, for the same price they offers you champagne!

Hi F5595ZGdavidf, I'm sorry to hear you were cold in the theatre. I'll pass your comment on to the Sydney Opera House technical team and make sure this has been monitored. To do so, can you tell me a bit more about the show you attended: what was the performance? which date did you attend? Thank you in advance, Aude

Fantastic Performance
Feb 2020 • Couples
This was an amazing performance of a classic. All of the lead characters were great. The modernization of the setting took some spectators by surprise but was well done. You can’t miss seeing an opera if in Sydney.
