We went on a friday and were surprised we expected not to be able to hear but had no issues. You 100% have to arrive as early as possible to ensure that you get a good spot. Also bean bags ran out but we lucky got one. It gets really dark so could probably help if they had staff around with touches. I am surprised no one has fallen because people are so tightly packed if you have to move around during the film.

I enjoyed our visit to the moonlight cinema. We went two days before the season was over but sill found it very pleasant. There is "gold class" seating more directly in front of the screen, we opted to go for general admission and still had very good seats. The only real difference in gold class is that waitstaff come to you.

Gates open at 6:30 and I would recommend getting here early to grab a good spot. Who cares if you are there earlier than the film, you can eat some dinner chat to friends and get comfortable before the movie. The majority of reviews I saw on here that said there was a long line are from people who seem to have arrived after 6:30.

There is a food truck on site, I enjoyed my hotdog and the Nutella doughnuts. (These are at cinema prices which was to be expected). You can also bring a picnic with you and alcohol if you wish. There are toilets available if needed.

I would classify this venue as handicapped friendly. The majority of the paths are paved and you could get a wheelchair onto the grass if needed. - having said this the parking was first come first served and I didn't see a handicapped section.

Beanbags are available for $9 each and made the event much comfier.

BRING:

Blankets for snuggling/in case it gets chilly

Cold drinks / picnic so you aren't paying theatre prices

Comfortable clothes, you are laying down outside after all

Aeroguard in the summer months

We were given these tickets as a present and unfortunately our movie was shown on a very rainy and miserable night. The movies are not cancelled!! I was mortified how many folks sat in the rain. We took credit. Here is where my experience quickly rolls downhill. There is no telephone contact to rebook and the email contact seems to work a few hours in the afternoon Mon-Friday only. It took 4 emails to obtain the complete list of instructions and information required to re-book.
I must agree with the last person's review - pre-book with caution - you are better to show up at the door and attend.

I've been there once before and had a better experience than this recent visit. Went to watch the movie paper planes and we thought we got a good spot, but as people poured in, there were a few people who brought camping chairs that decided to sit a few spaces in front of us. That sort of blocked our view. And during the screening, there were people in front of us who were getting up and moving about (a few kids too) and that was annoying. But also during the course of the movie, there were a few people in the audiences who had too much too drink and were giggling and talking quite loudly, disturbing everyone else. I guess that's what happens at outdoor cinemas, you never know what you're gonna get.

I'll be honest, I've loved Moonlight Cinema in the past and it can be a wonderful experience and a highlight of the Sydney Summer/Autumn calendar. However, since Telsta took over sponsorship of the event, it appears to leave a lot to be desired.

On 30/12/14, MC in Sydney screened "The Imitation Game". The toilets were out of order all evening and the film was inaudible. MC refused to accept this or offer us another screening for the inconvenience.

On 10/1/15, I decided to attend again to see a preview screening of "Birdman". Their T&Cs clearly state that performances will be cancelled for 'heavy and persistent rain', however Moonlight Cinema forced customers not willing to watch an entire film during a rainstorm to queue for over an hour to change tickets. The rain had been falling since 5.30pm that day and lasted all night. I decided not to do this, and wrote to ask for my tickets to be exchanged for another show. This would be in line with their T&Cs - Moonlight Cinema refused. Ironically, with just a threat of rain (no actual precipitation) the following day, Moonlight Cinema decided to cancel "Exodus: Gods and Kings" in line with their T&Cs.

I would highly advise if you attend MC to leave booking to the very last minute and pay only on the door.. It's the only way you can guarantee they'll stick to their T&Cs and you'll get what you pay for!

I booked tickets well in advance to take my family to see How To Train Your Dragon 2, spending about $85 USD for 4 people. Two hours before the show, the venue canceled, claiming weather concerns. Curious because the weather looked great. In fact, the forecast for the evening was clear skies and no rain. Later the venue clarified that “wind” was the concern. I don’t recall any wind on the day either. But weather happens, I get it. My main issue is the policy of no refunds for cancellations by the venue. Instead, they offer that you go to another show. But this doesn’t work for visitors, like us, and we lost $85 USD. My advice: buy a ticket at the last minute if you really want to go.

A great concept and location totally ruined by the organisation.

The bad:
1) Ticket states entry from 7pm. I arrived at 7pm, the place was already FULL and all beanbags sold out.
2) Found a spot at a 45 degree angle from the screen. The session was obviously oversold.
3) Signs from the sponsors blocking the screen.
4) Everything expensive at the food shops, you are better off bringing your own.
5) Ants, bats and mosquitos.

The good:
1) Weather was pleasant.

Stay away. Use Netflix instead, or just go to a normal cinema. Life is too short to deal with this rubbish.

The moonlight cinema was great. The beanbags were very comfy and in gold grass they were spaced so you weren’t sitting on top of each other. We took our own food and drink which was good to do. The picture and sound were great. Plenty of toilets and the workers were very warm and friendly. I will go again next year.

This is Sydney in Summer!! Great outdoor cinema in the renovated belvedere amphitheatre (less trees, nice path). Its a bit out the city but very local to us and easy transport. Make sure you book in advance for popular movies and get there early for a bean bag- which provide ultimate comfort and worth the extra cash. They also have Gold Grass although never done this. Only criticism was the movie was a little quiet at times although we were quite far back.

Once you get in, the setting is unreal and the film (anchroman) was of a decent audio/visual quality. Massively let down as they made 1000's of people queue in single file, we had to wait for about 45 mins. Obviously we were hoping to have our picnic and drinks as the sun was going down but by the time we finished queueing it was pretty much dark and difficult to do so. We even had 'print at home' tickets but still had to queue for an actual ticket apprently.
There wasnt much evidence of people who actually worked there to sort the queue issue out. As im writing this, im actually getting more angry and probably should have just jumped the fence.
