When visiting the area, I recommend going on the Manly to Shelly Beach walk. The views aren't as impressive as the Bondi to Coogee walk, however it is beautiful none the less

This small quiet beach has everything that AUS has to offer. A somewhat hidden beach with plenty of room along with a great view of Manly Beach just up the road. There are the usual Aussie amenities like tables and grills. This country really does a great job with their public spaces, making them safe and user friendly. Shelly is... More

This is slightly separated from the rest of Manly but easily reached via a short coastal walk. When the conditions are right surfing and body surfing at the point can be excellent and thrilling.

Beautiful little beach tucked away from Manly hustle and bustle, popular with the locals is is accessible from the road and down a walking track, not wheelchair friendly unfortunately. Secluded and calm, perfect for an afternoon dip or playing with the kids, attractive rock formations on the Northern Side and a walking trail back to Manly from the Southern end.

Even though pretty much deserted in the winter (except for walkers along the paved path from Manly Beach). this small cove is a lovely spot to visit. All along the walkway are artworks built into the stone...fish, scuba divers, octopi, etc...and in summer, a saltwater pool is filled by each high tide. Worth the ferry ride over !

I've been kicking aorund Manly and Shelley Beach for a bit and the quality of the snorkelling (like any outdoor activity) is a gamble. Sometimes the sea is a bit rough and it will be harder to see animals as they will be in hiding. Other times it is magical, I've seen cuttlefish, trigger fish, puffers, various rays, many fish... It's not enormous but that's part of its charm - a local suggested I go to Shelley Beach instead of Manly Beach, and I'm glad I did! Definitely check out The Boathouse for lunch while you're there, right on the beach - prices are a little cheaper if you get takeaway, and there are plenty of picnic tables to eat... More

Shelly Beach is approximately 15 minutes walk from Manly, but the main walking path was wiped out in severe storms in June 2016 and doubt it has been reinstated yet. We visited in March 2016 before the storms. The beach itself is a lovely sheltered spot and very popular. A wedding was taking place when we visited on a Friday... More

Staying in Manly

Neighborhood Profile
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbor Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
