Hidden gem, usually uncrowded

Locals snorkel here, it's calm and quiet. Also lots of parking and eateries nearby. Can get married in the gardens.

Shelly beach is a cool place to hang out, there are DIY BBQs which you can use, also there are restaurants and places to get food and drinks. As with all beaches in Sydney there are bathrooms and showers. The diving here is not bad either, you have port jackson sharks, giant cuttle fish, and in the summer its a... More

Nice little beach hidden away and often used by locals. Worth a visit though the walk there is a bit hilly

Small beach near Manley. Between the two there are scenic road. The beach is much calmer and with less visitors from Manley.

It is nice to walk out from the main beach at Manly to Shelly. Cyclists, walkers, runners all share the path. There are lovely views of the bay as you go too and it is nice to stop and look back. There were children in a surf club group in the water which was entertaining.

Shelley Beach is really gorgeous! Great add on when visiting Manly, as so close to each other. Lovely restaurant/cafe there, and lovely walks up to the lookout. Definitely worth visiting.

Secluded cove and mostly no waves to speak of. Lots of scuba groups learning. Ideal for young children. Even have gas barbeque available on beach for use. Clean sand and smallish area which can get crowded in summer. Minimal paid parking but easily accessed from Manly about a 10 minute walk. Repairs behind done at present so access a bit... More

Shelly Beach is a delight. It is only a short 10 minute walk from Manly (at present they are repairing damage to the path). The beach is protected so the waves are generally not very big, making it ideal for small kids. There is a grass area behind the beach which is great for picnics or there is a restaurant... More

This is a stunning spot for a day at the beach! Manly has always been our favourite beach until we walked around to this little gem. It is perfect for swimming away from the surf yet all of Manly's amazing amenities are right there. Get there early on a beautiful day so you can secure a good spot. You can... More

It´s a quiet place, at least when i was there. The waves are quiet small, so maybe is ideal for the kids with an adult supervision.

Staying in Manly

Neighborhood Profile
Manly
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbor Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
