We walked here from North Head. At that time the path from Manly beach was closed The Beach is sheltered and good for snorkelling. It is surrounded by trees and popular with scuba divers. There is a cafe and changing rooms A quick walk up to the car park is worth it for the sea views

This is a great place to go snorkelling in Sydney, there is amazing fish, and sea turtles, a baby squid families. Only thing I found was the amount of plastic in the water, bottle wrapper, balloons, plastic bags, we spent the day, collecting as much plastic as we could. if you love the sea please do this too. The sea... More

Had a great day sunbathing and snorkelling on this beach, which is a 20-minute walk from the ferry port. Take a picnic and drinks if possible as the only place to buy from is very expensive.

Unlike Manly, Cooogee and Bondi this is a quiet beach off the beaten track set in a beautiful little bay not far from Manly Bay

Went snorkeling here with Eco Treasures - amazing day! Saw a shark and baby stingray along with a Blue Grouper and many other marine life. The area is on a protected preserve so no boating allowed!

I rated Manly beaches as my preferred - this stretch of the beach is my reason for that! I love Shelly Beach - it's a lot quieter than other beaches and it is most popular with locals and travellers in the "know"

A few minutes walk from Manly centre, this beach is secluded and quiet with excellent sunbathing and swimming

Enjoyed the walk to Shelly beach but really disappointed to find the only cafe closed. We visited on a public holiday and the place was heaving. Didn't really see Shelly beach at its best but can appreciate how it could be on a normal day.

It's a small beach so the sand and shallow water get quite crowded. Luckily there is more space in the rocks if you don't mind the surface. Behind sand there is also a grass level, toilets, open shower and a cafeteria if you are looking for services. I tend to snorkel whenever I have the option and this place delivered... More

Huge crowd for Xmas day at Shelly beach. No life guards. Lovely sand and clear sea. Limited parking and windy access road. Accessible by pram to beach. Brush turkeys running wild. Nice little walk in wooded bit above the heads. Can easily walk the couple of kms around to manly beach.

Staying in Manly

Neighborhood Profile
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbor Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
