Neighborhood: Bondi Beach
An iconic Australian suburb, Bondi Beach is famous for its fantastic beaches and views. Once the domain of backpackers, hundreds of tourists from all over the world descend en masse to Bondi in December ready to enjoy the "Aussie summer". Bondi Beach boasts impressive ocean views all along the many restaurants and bars on Campbell Parade. Wake up early and take a dip in the surf before walking the scenic stretch from Bondi to Coogee Beach. Stroll through the Saturday organic markets in North Bondi or grab some fish and chips and relax in the grassy area opposite the beach. For more upscale cuisine, head down to Hall Street where a range of new eateries have recently opened. Just make sure to save enough energy for the buzzing nightlife Bondi Beach has to offer.

- George PBrooklin, Canada82 contributionsWorth a visitWe had to go to Bondi at least once while we were in Sydney and it was worth it. The waves were amazing and we had a great time playing in them. They do get quite large so you need to pay attention and know what you are doing. We also walked the path south of the beach and the views are fantastic.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten February 19, 2024
- Lisa F15 contributionsAmazing BeachMost gorgeous beach with iconic coastal views. You’ll get the best vacation pictures of your life here so head back at sunset. Bondi has a very strong current so keep your sunglasses in your bag or you’ll get hit by a wave and lose them like I did. Be sure to swim between the flags and wear plenty of sunblock. Don’t be deceived by the clouds.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 17, 2024
- ingrid9597Westchester County, New York263 contributionsNice BeachWe did the walk from Coogee to Bondi and it is a nice long walk, about an hour. Had lunch at Iceburg Pools (bring ID) and took pictures of the famous pool and beach. Then walked to the beach, nice clean large beach. No need for watershoes, the sand is soft.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 18, 2024

Better to go as early as possible. You can go in the water but being careful. Water was nice and clear. The coastal walk is beautiful.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 20, 2024

Good weather and it was a relaxing afternoon on the beach. As for the beach, of course it's lovely sand, but there are many other beaches that are at least as good or betterVisited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten March 30, 2024
- Paul LegateUnited Kingdom21,952 contributionsGreat place for early morning walksBondi Beach is always worth a visit, it is very touristy and there are many other notable beaches but it is still an iconic place that is definately worth a visit whilst in the Sydney area. On our most recent stay we visited quite often in the early mornings before first light when it was busy with joggers doing the Bondi circuit. There have been some changes since the pandemic but it is still a beach that has great appeal.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 1, 2024

Bondi Beach’s full of energy and surf culture. The clear water and reliable waves combined with the breathtaking coastline makes Bondi Beach iconic and picturesque. The Graffiti Wall, which changes every now and then, complements the vibrant atmosphere of the beach as well.
So many fun things to do around the beach too! The beachside offers decent restaurants, cozy cafes and great shopping. Definitely a chill hang out place in Sydney! These all explains why Bondi Beach attracts thousands of tourists and locals to visit.
The beach is absolutely easy to access by public transport. If you’re taking a train, you can go to Bondi Junction Station first and transfer by bus. There are also different direct buses from CBD. Either way takes you 30-45 minutes.
Include this spot in your must-go list!

The waverley walk is amazing and very well worth while.
I would stay at Bondi Hotel if you can. The cocktails are $14 about ÂŁ7 and it is open mon-sat till 12 and till late. Closed early on a Sunday.
Other bars are open but can be expensive as shots can be $30 each.
The staff at bondi hotel are amazing and just across the road from the beach.
The Pavillion restaurant breakfast from 930-11am is amazing. The bacon and eggs on toast are fab, as is the yogurt granola (incs liquorice and surprising great). Breakfast including, coffee 2 drinks, 1 granola bowl and 2 bacon eggs toast about ÂŁ35. This is a contract to 2018 when would have been double even though the exchange rate is about the same 1.8 to pound in 2018 and 1.9 in Nov 23.
We went to Coggee Bay in 2018 and that was fab too but prefer Bondi Beach as a little more going on and access to other places is great.
Tip - get the 303 bus into Sydney for $20 from the shop. We had 4 trips into Sydney off peak and a trip on the ferry from Sydney to Darling Harbour and back. A bargain for ÂŁ10. A must.
the supermarkets are so much cheaper than 2018, a great surprise. However, if you smoke they are $65 for 25...yes ÂŁ33. My one son smoked so a bit of a shock, but I agree keep them expensive to discourage smoking.
Their local chemists are really cheap so no need to pack suncream (a bucket of factor 50 is ÂŁ7.....to encourage you to use it, great idea), shampoo etc.
Really loved Bondi Beach, so clean and beautiful.

It is one of the most important beaches, located 9 km from the center. We arrive by public transport in about 35'.
It is extensive with clear sand and waves suitable for surfers who usually come daily in the early hours. Next to it is the Bondi Beach Park (large green space with barbecues) and a wide esplanade that runs along it, ideal for walks or sitting and contemplating on some of its benches. There is also Bondi Pavillion, a pavilion that houses restaurants, a cafeteria, bathrooms, changing rooms and lockers (fees apply).
When we went it was a splendid sunny day and the beach was quite busy, even several people in the sea.
The avenue that borders it, Campbell Parade, offers a number of cafes and restaurants, as well as some accommodation options.
A few meters from the beach is the Icebergs Club and the trail begins that continues to Coogee Beach.

A very famous & pretty beach but crowded (it was the weekend though) with shops selling very over priced coffee & ice cream.
I ventured down to the water & OMG it was FREEZING!! Being a soft Brit, I was expecting the water to be a bit warmer than it is in Cornwall but the sand made up for it - so soft, it was like walking on air.
When visiting Australia for the first time, you gotta do these things & find out for yourself that it's not all hot weather, warm water & kangaroos - but it is awesome :-)

What a wonderful beach. Australia is so lucky it has many beautiful sandy beaches so close to the city. when i visited australia, i only visited Bondi and Manly. Bondi is more famous because of one of the TV show. i love this place. there is kids friendly pool for safe swimming, the sand is so soft and clean. many cafes, and very easy to access by bus.

As part of a tour of Sydney, we stopped at Bondi Beach for 30 minute stop. Unfortunately, the day was a little chilly and very windy, so it was not very enjoyable as the wind was blowing sand in your face and eyes. Our tour guide assured us this was a very enjoyable beach on most other days with the weather is cooperative.

We took a bus to Bondi beach from Sydney, only cost us $3. It is an iconic beach both for its sands and sharks. The sand is fabulous, if a little hard to walk on. Parking is good with plenty around. The surf was fabulous

Nice beach. It was not crowded the day we went. It was part of a tour we did of Sydney. We had lunch at a restaurant located on the beach and later relaxed here for a short while. The sand was soft, and the water temperature was okay. I'm not a surfer, so I can't address that aspect. Overall, it was a nice beach, but nothing exceptional.
What DID work? I don't generally like beer, but the restaurant waiter suggested one popular in Australia (Bundaberg ginger beer) and I loved it! I have found it here at home!

So while the beach itself and the Bondi town is lovely, the crowds are too much for me to take. This starts as soon as you get to the Bondi Junction to get on the bus and continues non stop. It's a pity, as the beach is really nice - somehow the area developed into a tourist trap (to give you an idea, a small bottle of water costs $5).

We visited Bondi in early March. It was a fairly warm day, but it happened to be sprinkling. This small bit of rain guaranteed we had the swimmers section of the beach ENTIRELY to ourselves. The water was warm, the waves were so fun to play in. We had the absolute best time. After we were done playing in the water, we went and got crepes nearby at a creperie, then went and got some great Bondi Beach shirts. Such a fun and memorable day at a great, historic beach. We would go back.

Hey everyone! I’m going down to Sydney in 3 or so weeks to see Taylor Swift and hopefully stop by at Bondi. Is it alright to take photos with the lifeguards as I’ve been a pretty huge fan of them for some years now?

The lifesavers will happily co-operate with visitors.

What are some shops you don’t want to miss near bondi beach?
Written December 30, 2019
Take your choice of the small brasseries, all the souvenir shops are the same. If you have forgotten something then you will find it along the stretch.

What time of year has the calmest surf conditions and is warm enough for swimming.
Written August 12, 2018
I don't know when the calmest conditions are but my girls swam in mid June (which is their winter) and they didn't think it was cold.

Massive fan of the show Bondi Rescue. Are you allowed to visit the tower? Whats the best way to meet the lifeguards?
Written August 10, 2018
Hi, No you cannot visit the tower as it is for emergencies only but if you are lucky you may catch the lifeguards on patrol on the beach - they are more than happy to stop for a photo. Hope this helps
