My wife and me went there and went swimming. I have to say that although the water is nice, the beach is terribly sandy. It was really white. Be warned, if you go onto the beach wearing socks and sandals like we did, be prepared to get sand all over your socks. Also, make sure you take sunscreen or you will end up really burned all over. I wish someone had told me that as well. We couldn't move for the next 4 days and stayed in our hotel on the bed. At least the room service had plenty of good food in our hotel which was great. The other thing that I wish I had known about were the SHARKS! I never knew that Australia had sharks in the water. It's crazy! Worst of all is that they JUMP OUT OF THE WATER!!The whole place is full of sharks. One guy told us that because we are from the USA they like to eat Americans more than Australians. I saw one jump out of the water that was huge but he said that was just a baby. I got a photo of it to proof it. The people down there are crazy, no way would I ever swim in their sea water if I had known it was infested with sharks.

Certainly the best known of the Sydney beaches - it is always a pleasant day out ta Bondi. Although I would try to avoid public holidays when it can get very busy. Nowadays (with COVID) I would suggest Bronte as the more enjoyable alternative. .

August is not a good time for the beaches in Sydney. It was cold and windy, with some rain, deserted but one can imagine what it looks like when it's in full use. Definitely a must when you visit Sydney. A good way to see it is to take the blue line on the Big Bus hop on - hop off tour and get off at the beach, takea stroll to the next stop and catch the next bus.
