We were spending our last day in Sydney out shopping and came across the Strand Arcade. Lots of shops in a lovely old Victorian style building, not the high end designers boutiques like QVB, but more affordable stores. Quite busy on a Monday afternoon with tourists and locals.

This is a beautiful shopping arcade, and less ostentatious than the Queen Victoria Building. There are a lot of shops to check out, and we spent some time at The Strand, as my husband had his hair cut here twice, and I had a fantastic coffee each time at Gumption while waiting for him. Check out the lovely glass and... More

While this 1890's shopping arcade is very interesting, it is not as grand or as large as the nearby Queen Victoria building. You can see both in one afternoon.

What a beautiful arcade, set in the heart of Sydney lies a beautiful reminder of years gone by. A true reminder of what wonderful architecture we used to have. It's worth a visit for any reason you choose.

What a delightful find. Between Gearge Street and Pitt Street this is a gem of the past and in such good state of repair especiallly seeing the through flow of people it attracts. Shops galore and cafes too you really have to have a walk through and a gander. Shopfronts intact in mounded mahogany, floor tiles in brilliant condition this... More

We first visited this delightful place when in Sydney six years ago, and returned there this time as we were so impressed then. It is great to see this wonderful piece of history so well preserved - far too many similar buildings have been lost in the interest of new developments. Oh and yes - the shops are as impressive... Great historical shopping arcade, similar arcades are located in Adelaide and Melbourne. Sydney Arcade runs between George Street and Pitt Street Mall and has alot of cafés on the ground floor. Underground is a large JB HiFi store with two entrances and upper levels contain some very expensive jewellery shops. A lovely place to look around.

This was a cool place to visit. The architecture alone was worth seeing in all its restored beauty. The shops are pretty posh and unique. We enjoyed lunch and watching all the shoppers scourge for Christmas finds. Loved the chocolate shop in particular.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
