One of my favourite places to visit when I arrive in Sydney- love the history and architecture of the arcade, reeks of quality and love the stores and cafes here. One of Sydney's better Italian restaurants, Pendolinos, is also located here. So much better than the nearby newer shopping complexes like Westfields.

I first visited The Strand Arcade in 1986; this was my second visit after 3 decades. The interior and facade have been diligently preserved and maintained. It is always a pleasant walk through the arcade even if one is not shopping.

If you like the old this is a fine example of restoring the old to create a beautiful shopping experience. We happened to be there over a weekend where they had specialist speakers talk for half an hour about their crafts. We enjoyed listening to Alan Tomkins an Australian guitar maker who shared his skills with a small audiance while... More

The best thing about The Strand Arcade is that within my lifetime it has barely changed. It maintains the old style feel and suits the modern day part of Sydney. Don't forget to visit Haighs B

What a beautiful Victorian shopping arcade. This building is architecturally a master piece. And of course great for shopping and eating. The toilets are on the upper levels. Beautiful.

The Strand Arcade is located in the Pitt Street Mall and contains a variety of smaller shops. Loads of light entered the arcade through the high glass ceilings and it was lovely to see that the old world charm has been retained throughout (eg. the floor tiles, lighting and shop signs). Beautiful!

We just love the beautiful design of this arcade and the quaint shops that are located here. None of them are the usual high street brands, so whilst they maybe slightly more expensive than going to others, you will be sure to find something unique and unusual here. Rest and have a coffee and snack whilst watching the shoppers mill... More

You could almost feel being transported back to an age of beauty and romance. I just don't find this timeless character in so many of the more modern buildings I see these days. The place exudes old world charm and ambiance. You'll come across some excellent tilework, immaculate glassworks, wrought iron features and fine details of craftsmanship all around. I... More

The Strand Arcade stretches from The Pitt Street Mall to George Street. It is filled with many designer name shops, cafes, restaurants, clothing shops, jewelry stores, bakeries and specialty shops. It is a gorgeous structure over 3 floors. The dark wood architecture is gorgeous. Even a shoeshine shop. Don't miss the Nut Shop and Haigh's Chocolates. You can walk thru... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
