Facilities are good but teachers not so good or experienced
Mar 2019 • Solo
This is a review for Humming puppy studio in Prahran Melbourne Australia .. facilities are good but there’s not much I can say about the classes. If you are looking for an experienced & widely trained teachers with a full yoga lead class then this is not the place for you. The teachers experience & sequencing is very basic. And if you book on line especially for Tuesday & Saturday classes it will always say there a waiting list of 20 students but if you ring up or turn up 30 minutes before the class starts you’ll be told that there’s mats available and when you turn up to the class there are a lot of vacant mats. I think they do this to make it look like the class is famous & sought after and to make sure they make money... They have 3 types of classes: dynamic, unified & mellow. The dynamic & unified are taught the same way especially if the same teacher is teaching in both classes & a sequence is repeated over and over and over!
This studio is beautiful and best for students who wants to say they do yoga but if you want to learn authentic yoga, advance in your practice with proper alignment that works your entire body go somewhere else.

Pay for nearly no access.
Jan 2019 • Solo
‘$35 unlimited access’ BUT every class (even middle of the day during the week) is booked out days and days in advanced.

You get ‘unlimited access to the studio’ which is one room. So I guess you get unlimited access to completely booked out classes so you can’t do any yoga.

You are literally paying for a service you can’t get access to.

I would recommend this company look at capacity issues instead of running a business model like this - literally the furthest thing from what Yoga should be.... Inclusive.

‘Free’ coconut water but. 🙄

Fantastic studio. Gorgeous design and concept. Teacher was knowledgeable. Little tough to find from the street but well worth the hunt.

The best yoga studio I've ever been to
Apr 2018 • Solo
I've practiced yoga for going on 8 years now and so have seen my fair share of yoga studios, but none quite have impressed me like HP.

The unique design and amenities of the studio (ASPA toiletries, hair straighteners, hair bands, etc) were like being at a resort but more importantly, the teachers were all fantastic, at once soulful and professional. (I recall Michael in particular). Very much felt like a safe and nurturing space.

I was visiting Sydney and Melbourne on this most recent trip and checked out HP in both cities. Rate the Melbourne studio just as highly. Curiously, the vibrations at the Melbourne studio I felt were much stronger. Anyhow, I don't live in Australia which makes me sad I can't go regularly but if I did, I'd be there all the time.

One more thing, I got an email from HP asking how I found it after my first class so brownie points for being proactive in getting feedback and trying to figure out what their community wants.

A great little 'home from home' to maintain your practice whilst in Sydney
Jan 2017 • Business
I was in Sydney for the past week and found this yoga studio on the web, based on proximity. You need to look carefully for the entrance as it looks like a regular door, with no signage indicating the presence of the studio. Inside, you go up one flight of stairs where you'll find the studio to be modern and split over two floors. On the first floor there is a reception area (high ceilings, I think this was formerly a loft or industrial space) and bright, clean changing rooms, with lockers and showers/towels available etc.
On the second floor you'll find the main studio, which is a big airy space. As you walk up the stairs you begin to hear the odd but relaxing prerecorded sound of humming (in fact it's really hard to describe the noise)..but between that specific sound and the darkness of the studio it has the effect of giving the space a distinctive identity. You have to book your mat position in advance on the website although it was never completely full when I practiced there.
The instructors I had were Phoebe, Ali and Kristy and all were pleasant, calm and professional, my impression was that they were very experienced. Each class started with a short breathing exercise/meditation and then moved on to what I recognized to be Vinyasa flow poses (I have only done Vinyasa or Bikram so everything looks like that to me :-) for either an hour or ninety minutes at the weekend.
I don't know what the 'going rate' is in Sydney but the 'drop in' fee looks a little pricey at $35AUD but per above there are shower facilities available too. There is a deal for $70 for the first 30 days which meant that the 6 classes I took were pretty good value.
This was a great little 'home from home' to maintain practice in Sydney.
