Operating since 2016, Journey Walks offers handcrafted adventures through Sydneys colourful past & historic locations. Our walks have been carefully researched, written & curated by historians & script-writers to scratch below the city's surface and uncover the quirky characters, hidden histories & underbelly aspects of Sydney's notorious heritage. Join us in The Rocks & Circular Quay for a journey into Sydney's original Convict Colony, in Kings Cross & Potts Point as we uncover its infamous golden-age of crime & bohemia, and in Surry Hills as we bring to life the former haunts & hide-outs of Sydney's underworld. We offer small group experiences (both public & private tours) that engage, entertain & educate!

Overview
Founded as a convict colony, Sydney’s history is simply fascinating. Discover it with a local historian on this small-group walking tour of The Rocks, which wraps up inside a converted 19th Century storehouse with a cobblestone beer-garden. See a scale model of the area in Customs House; visit historic slums, speakeasies, and ruins in The Rocks’ cobbled lanes; and hear tales of derring-do as you visit the landmarks in Macquarie Place.

Two friends, an Aussie and an American went on this tour whilst in Sydney in March 2020, (just before covid 19 lockdown) and both came away having learnt a lot and having had a great time. Young Max was a terrific tour guide, well spoken, knowledgeable, relaxed and friendly. This tour was well paced and a bargain. A great small group tour. I had lost my information on this tour which is why it has taken a while to review. I was also prompted by the lovely email update from Max (I’m guessing Big Max) about their restarting the tours after all these months of Covid uncertainty, which only goes to show how much this companies professionalism extends. I’m stuck in closed borders but I can say, without hesitation I sincerely recommend this tour and this tour company to anyone who wants to learn something new and have some fun in the process. I will return to support you when I can return to Sydney. The praise this business gets is well earned. Good luck.

April was our quide and she was exceptional. She has a great educational background which becomes apparent as she recounts tales of the past in Sydney. We knew nothing about the convicts and the Rocks and what an important part of Sydney history they represent. Well worth the investment!!

Max, you are a nerdy rockstar (compliment btw), we were amazed at your amount of knowledge and ability to answer random historic facts when questioned... 5 starts!

Max was a very well educated/informed guide with boundless enthusiasm and passion for this subject. As an Aussie who has lived for many, many years in Sydney and considers herself a history buff, I came away far more knowledgeable and with a far greater appreciation of this small part of our fabulous country after partaking of tour with Max. Highly recommended! PS my American friends feel same. Paula
