The Sydney ferries make a visit to the city so much easier. Regular ferries from and to Circular Quay from a number of nearby bays and Harbours. The ferries are operational from morning to evening at reasonable prices. Sydney may be proud of its ferries.

Took the ferry to get a great view of the Sydney Opera House and get to our hotel. Ferry was on time, clean and easy to use. Similar to a subway except on water and great views of the city and surrounding area.

A great way to see Sydney Harbor from the water. My wife and I took the ferry to Manly and back and it was a very nice afternoon trip. Manly has a great beach promenade and plenty of good restaurants. A craft brewery too! Just...More

So many ferry ride options, and one of the best ways to see Sydney. Ferries to Neutral Bay, Manly, Watson's Bay, Balmain and Cockatoo Island are highly recommended. Set a day aside or two to enjoy Sydney's Harbour.

Could anyone recommend a company that runs evening cruises in the harbour - just an ordinary one, without dinner? It's a shame that the state run Sydney Ferries seems to have stopped running their morning, afternoon and evening cruises.

Try Captain Cook Cruises as they run a range of trips all day/night.

I've just spend the weekend in Sydney visiting the Sydney Biennale. An amazing FREE arts festival with 440 works by 166 artists and collaborators from 36 countries. Details are available at www.bos17.com. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We spent most of yesterday at Cockatoo Island which is one of the main venues. Cockatoo Island is the largest island in Sydney Harbour and is a heritage site. It was used as a prison from about the 1840s and used as a navalbase and dockyard where the Australian Navy...More

Thank you for the tip - the Opera House and Pier 2/3 are other venues. Looks very worthwhile. Seems exceptionally well organised - free ferry transport!!

Sydney Ferries (7 Replies)
My wife and I are coming to Sydney in February, 2013. Would we be wise to use the ferries most of the time to get between Sydney proper and the north shore? I keep hearing that the ferries are the best way to travel. We will not be renting a car and are not sure right now where to stay. We would kind of like to stay near Manly Beach or Bondi Beach. Ideas? We could sure use the benefit of the wisdom of others.

no need for a car. traffic is awful and parking is expensive and hard to find. bondi beach is 'connected' to the cbd by bus and bus/train. manly by ferry or bus. fares for 2 add up so take that into consideration of where deciding to stay.
