The area
Address
Neighborhood: The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighborhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.

    Excellent Market
We were returning from a ferry trip and when I looked right I noticed that there was The Rocks market on. it is situated at the northern end of George Street and a popular tourist market in Sydney. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 5pm. We decided to visit and was surprised how large it was with so many food options as well as retail and craft stalls. With the back drop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge I stumbled across the Prosecco man and decided to have an Italian Beer.

    Fun market in Sydney!
The Rocks Market is a vibrant community market with a wide variety of options! It’s got the layout of a farmers’ market, but is more of a crafts and prepared food market. It has everything from the basics, such as fresh breads, chocolates, and fruit drinks, to the more exotic like BBQ emu and kangaroo. A great weekend activity in one of Sydney’s oldest neighborhoods!

    Browse, Try, Buy..
The Rocks Markets, on a Sunday, picturesque against the Harbour Bridge background - very lively, tourists or locals, bustling & crowded it had a vibrant feel, nearly Christmas. Crystals, Clothing, accessorize with pendants, hairties & bows; chocolates and fudges, different tastes and artisan products, too many items to see, too little time. Browse, try, buy; will return again when we visit Sydney. (I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), wear a legbrace.)

The stalls were either lovely but massively over priced merchandise or cheap and tacky Australian souvenirs targeting the cruise ship market.
Food stalls were ho hum.
Was not worth fighting the throngs and I do not recommend.

The Rocks Market is an open air Market with stalls selling different types of arts and crafts, jewellery, clothing, all types of trinkets, and street food. We have been there many times and enjoy to walk through, and occasionally buying a little something. It is right in the middle of the Rocks area and close to the Harbour Bridge. There are many other attractions nearby. Worth a visit.

Wife was in her element, markets to browse and a great variety of artisan jewellery and clothing, candles, soaps, woodworks, foodstuffs, confectionery and much more to keep her occupied for a couple of hours. There was much to interest, and I had to remind her that it was the start of the holiday and to keep it small. Great interaction with the stallholders, I enjoyed some exotic nibbles, managed some great photos and finally managed to haul my wife away to view the Museum of Contemporary Art. Worth visiting if in the area Saturday/Sundays.

The market is open Friday 9am-3pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm. A bustling market with stalls full of handcrafted items and artisans selling their wares. Food is also available. Be sure to check out the shops and restaurants in the area that are not part of the weekend market. Overall we enjoyed our time browsing all the stalls.

I was extremely excited to bring a friend here and show her the amazing stalls at the markets but was saddened to see that obviously with our current climate some or actually a lot of stalls have now left.
The market is in a beautiful location at The Rocks and the stalls that are still there are amazing. Just much smaller. Loads of artwork, unique hand made items, gift ware, home ware, personal care and a cracking coin stall with amazing coins on offer! I hope that over time the stalls start to increase again as perhaps we begin to go back to a newer normal.

We started our last day in Sydney visiting the Rocks Market, which is located a few blocks from the Overseas Passenger Terminal where our cruise ship was docked. It is only open on weekends.

Many of the vendors sell homemade or limited production items, things you won't find at every souvenir store you visit. We were very happy with the unique items we purchased including hand knit children's hats, Aborigine design luggage tags, jewelry and resusable travel utensils.

I visited the markets on Friday, and saw this little jewellery stall... and viewed some earrings...

Cane back on the Saturday, and sort out the jewellery stall again, hoping to purchase what I'd seen the day before.

As the earring I wanted weren't on display, Olivia, the stall manager, arranged to have them for me on the Sunday. Quick phone call to her on Sunday, to confirm what I wanted was there, and a quick visit back, and earrings were mine.

Olivia was most helpful and a very lovely lady to chat with. Getting what I wanted was no trouble for her to arrange. She has some lovely and interesting pieces...
