    Muttonbird Island walk
Stayed at The observatory self contained accomodation. Very nice, comfortable and clean. Walking track on Muttonbird Island is a nice easy walk. The view looking back on the Marina is lovely. The beach at foot of the walk is dog friendly and there is plenty of parking. Would recommend going to the lookout at Muttonbird.

    Great scenic short walk
Well maintained scenic walk along the oceanfront through the marina along the massive breakwater to the island. Well maintained path up and over to the tip of the island to see not only active burrows and flying shearwaters but dolphin pods if you're lucky and to coastal vistas. Be aware parts at the start and to the tip could be quite steep for some

    Beautiful vista, fascinating facts
A walk on Muttonbird Island was a pleasant end to our afternoon in Coffs Harbour. Easy parking at the marina. Enjoyed looking at the boats and the scenery. No muttonbirds home when we visited but still worth the somewhat steep walk just for the wonderful views. We ended our trip with some local fresh fish and chips at the marina. Tips: * It was quite windy on the walk - we were grateful we grabbed our coats as we left the car. * Downloaded a free self-guided tour app produced by NSW National Parks - gave us some good insights about the location and wildlife.

This island was a lovely surprise. We were all very grateful to learn about island and its feathered inhabitants. We downloaded the NPWS Self Guided Tour app and really loved the information and auditory that accompanied it. We visited on a windy day so it was cold but still worth it. Saw plenty of whales too.

We'd had dinner then walked from the restaurant back towards the water then to the end of the pier and then along the breakwall towards the island. The sun was setting and it was a lovely walk. By the time we got to the base of the hill we'd had enough but persevered and went to the top which really isn't hard. The sun had set but it was lovely up there looking back at the town and also the bay. At the top you can continue the walk which is very flat and on a raised walkway. I did and went to where it descended but turned back to where I'd left my husband sitting at the lookout. Not sure where it would have gone but suspect to the bottom of the other side of the hill.
Getting dark now so when we got to the bottom we walked back to our car via the boardwalk at the marina.
Well worth doing and especially good around sunset.

Well worth the hike up the hill to gain a spectacular perspective over the whole of Coffs Harbour and beaches.
Watch the yachts and runabouts bravely negotiate entry to the harbour amidst some significant swells.
At this time of year you get the bonus of watching the migrating whales frolicking off shore as they make their way north.
Make sure you keep going up and over the top to the end to see the power of the sea driving white foam through the horizontal waterfall, crashing through the rocks.

The walk up the hill is quite steep but well worth the hike. There are 360 degree panoramic views of Coffs Harbour. If you come to Coffs you have to make this trip. Situated just at the end of the Breakwater.

Beautiful little Island and the pathway is nicely laid for smooth and easy walk up and down. We went there almost every week for a nice walk and got fish and chips for lunch at Jetty Co-op.

The sea can be pretty rough with water splashing over the rocks at some times.

Is a small island only connected to the mainland by the harbour wall. It was quite a steep climb but again gave us some great views of the rugged coastline of the area.

It’s also home to sheerwater birds, which early settlers called muttonbirds because of their fatty flesh, hence the island’s name.
