The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is Australia's only dedicated cartoon gallery....

The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is Australia's only dedicated cartoon gallery. It is housed in a genuine World War 2 underground bunker which was constructed in 1943 as a communications facility for the R.A.A.F. Today it is a quirky exhibition space with regularly changing exhibitions of funny and insightful cartoons from Australian and international cartoons. The Bunker is also the home of the Coffs Cartoon Collection which consists of over 20,000 cartoons and is one of the largest collections of its type in world. Please note that the Bunker does show the occasional non-cartoon exhibition as part of its commitment to the local community.

We've visited the Bunker Cartoon Gallery on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed it. Some exhibitions have appealed to us more than others - the recent Bald Archies and David Rowe exhibitions were fabulous and the annual Marnie Yeates Nature Photography Competition is always superb. Even if the works on display are not entirely your cup of tea,... More

The "Bald Archies" were on display when we visited and were more than worth the $5 entry alone but I believe the displays change from time to time featuring Australia's best cartoonest's. It is well done but not that easy to find so check your map carefully.

Set in a well maintained WWII communications bunker where Australia's arguably greatest Prime minister worked this place has been filled with some of the best art works in the nation. A general focus on Cartoon styled art but much much more, a great place for all.

There is always something interesting to see in this gallery. Usually very funny cartoons and for school holidays they also hold workshops and our grand children really enjoyed learning how to draw dinosaur cartoons. Also worth viewing the video when you arrive as the history of the place is fascinating.

Not only did I explore the gallery during their Aliens and Monsters exhibition, I attended one of their adult drawing classes. Staff are all volunteers and this was one of the more interesting galleries for the whole family. Definitely worth seeing. Give yourself about an hour or more to enjoy all its aspects. If you want to keep the kids... More

One of the few educational attractions open on a Monday in Coffs Harbour (the museum, galleries, marine centre, etc are all closed Monday). I went with 2 home-school girls and the enthusiastic staff showed us a short historical clip of the former use of the bunker and similar features in Coffs Harbour before we entered the main area. It was... More

A great place to visit. A WWII bunker that has been converted into a Cartoon Museum. A visit starts with a historical video and then you are free to wander about and chuckle at the exhibited cartoons. The curators are at hand for any questions or just discuss cartoons and local history. A real find.

There in early December with a group of friends as part of a day trip we organised, well worth going if not just for the history alone but the cartoons are another thing, I did not realise that way back then the still had a wicked sense of humour, Enjoy Geoff.

A fun museum in an underground bunker. The 4 minute film in the entrance gives a potted history of the bunker itself, and the museum contains an interesting collection of cartoons from around 1850 to the present day. Well worth $3!
