nice spot to step inside and off the main street to find a hide away for non-pretentious, easy going fellow drinkers. The live music lineup looks great for our next visit

We used to live here in the early 90s... Now it's bigger and trendier, with less shabby, grimy, Irish quirkiness not to mention the layer of dust on the old antiques and the lumpy sofas up the back. Still the same student creative mix, although since look a lot richer these days. A necessary part of any trip to Canberra. Watch out for the snooty brats who occasionally man the door though. The Phoenix Elders need respect, you know.

There's a reason this pub has been around forever. Great atmosphere, good bands and a decent drink. Always a great place to spend a Saturday night.

The Phoenix is the best pub in Canberra. It plays host to live music most nights a week, serves up anything you could wish to drink, and has plenty of room to stretch out on the couches or, if you prefer, to huddle around the tables. (There are bar stools too of course.) When I first came to Canberra in December 2012, The Phoenix quickly became my favourite place to drink and enjoy life, and it has such a great crowd of regulars. My thanks to the hard working staff who make it all happen night after night. Long live The Phoenix.

More than just the name, the Phoenix succumbed recently to fires and has since reborn right next door. The Phoenix 2 is a comfortable and non pretentious pub with great music and atmosphere. It is not a pub of steel, glass, and barbie dolls. Nor is the Phoenix a pub of thundering hip hop and body shots. It's my local watering hole because of its quirky character, its commitment to live music and serves a decent pint of Guiness.
