The Rome exhibition which mainly consisted of static objects in small glass cabinets and large (albeit impressive) sculptors of ancient romans and gods lacked the ‘wow’ factor. I thought they could have used digital technology more to show large, projected, immersive environments to create more...More

Visited the Roman Empire exhibition last week and it was well worth a visit. the Romans were amazing people, well ahead of their time. The carved ivory theatre tickets were my favorite. The café there provides an excellent choice of food and the gift shop...More

We spent a morning here. It was not as good as I remembered it being last time I went but still had a lot of information on the History of Australia. Would be a great location to take kids.

A wonderful exhibition in a wonderful venue - hadn’t visited the museum for many, many years. What a tremendous transformation it has undergone - thoroughly enjoyed by our group which included a very wide range of ages - from 30 to 80. Lunch was a...More

We went to see the Roman exhibition which was on loan from the LondonMuseum. That was great but the other areas were terrific and with building plans it will be another excellent venue to visit in Canberra.

How much time for seeing sights in Canberra (6 Replies)
Hi, how much time would you suggest someone spend, when visiting and seeing the following sights in Canberra? (For the first time.) The: National Gallery of Australia, National Portrait Gallery, National Museum of Australia, National Film and Sound Archive, Telstra Tower, National Library of Australia, Australian National Botanical Gardens. - Apparently a few of the above mentioned sights, are closer in proximity than others. - I hope Canberra's public transport runs services to...More

And add the War Memorial (it is very good) and could be several hours (the 5pm Last Post event requires about 30 mins and again is very moving). Also the Old Parliament House is very interesting and worth a visit (one hour) For National Gallery could be one hour or 3 hours (depends on your interest in art) plus any special shows that are on, Portrait Gallery one hour, National Library we spent only 40 mins (good small museum) plus a coffee overlooking the lake. Not sure about public...More

3 months in Canberra mid-May to mid-Aug w/2 year old & baby (7 Replies)
Hello: We will be in Canberra from mid-May to mid-Aug with our two small children, ages 2 and under 1. My husband will be at ANU all day, we will be in an apartment in Acton, and we will not have a car (except for rentals for weekend excursions). We were also there last winter, though I was only there for a month, and I was pregnant with the baby so only one child at the time. I had a really hard time finding things to do to get my son out of the house. We live in a cold weather climate...More

I think there's playground equipment in Commonwealth Park (just to the east of Civic). Weston Park in Yarralumla (on the lake, but the other side) is also a great place for kids, but it's probably slightly too far to walk (about 5km across and around the lake). The Route 2 bus goes to the Yarralumla Shops from Civic and is a much shorter walk from there.

Getting around Canberra by Bike (5 Replies)
Is biking a reasonable way of getting around Canberra? Is it possible to bike to the following locations from the city centre, and how long would it take? -National Zoo - Royal Australian Mint - AIS - National Museum of Australia

Depends on where in the city you are staying and how fast you can peddle. From city West it should take 15 mins to National Museum.I think 30 mins to AIS and Mint. National Zoo , if you were at the Mint then do it the same day, Good Luck
