Small collection of artefacts from Versailles. Paintings and a few pieces of Sevres with garden urns, sculptures,Gobelin tapestries and an Aubusson carpet were main parts of exhibition. Copper plumbing from original fountains and gardens was interesting as were plans and discussion of hydraulics of garden contents. The animal sculptures from the now non-existent labyrinth were great. A small taste of the... More

The exhibition has many different pieces ranging from paintings to vases, sculptures, rugs, furniture, etc. There are only a few very exquisite pieces which showcases the extravagance of the palace. The rest of the exhibition can be viewed as a very good history lesson. It highlights the way of life at the time and how the fashion and tastes changed... More

I've been here countless times across childhood and adulthood, and there's always something to revisit or relearn, as well as excellent special exhibitions. This time we came for the Versailles exhibition, and while I've been to the actual palace twice, it was lovely to be able to see individual pieces of the palace up close, with detailed descriptions of the... Went there this time to visit the Versailles exhibition. Enjoyed it immensely. Then had lunch in Café. A place to return to time and time again.

We went to the Gallery recently and whilst I am not a Gallery person, there were some wonderful paintings and exhibitions. If you like this sort of thing and value art etc it is well worth a visit. Parking nearby but you may a minimal amount.

Took the early 9am tour prior to the general public opening at 10am. Enjoyed it thoroughly and had the opportunity to see the Nolan Kelly and Artists of the Great War exhibitions, a great morning.

We took the guided tour which lasted a little over an hour which we can thoroughly recommend. Our guide was very knowledgable of the history of Versailles and gave us a real understanding of the shear opulence of the Kings and Queens and their enterouge who lived in this beautiful palace. A must see when you visit Canberra.

Don't miss the opulent Versailles exhibition at the National Gallery Canberra. If you want to be a really understanding of the history and glorious 130 object - take the free guided tour. The tour just over an hour and it is full of interesting information and the Kings, Queens and nobility. Don't miss Sidney Nolan's Ned Kelly Series; Claude Monet,... More

Staff could not have been more courteous and friendly if they tried. The exhibition was wonderful and well laid out. All other parts of the Gallery are easily accessible and just as well laid out with plenty of places to sit.

We went primarily to see the Versailles exhibition which was fantastic. Much smaller crowd than at the real thing in Paris so we could stop and look at exhibits in detail!! Also looked at the War Picture gallery which complemented our visit to the War Memorial. Well worth seeing Sidney Nolan Ned Kelly originals etc. too!!
