Love this gallery. It looks great and has interesting artworks and usually some pretty good travelling exhibitions to keep things interesting. Added to that a fabulous gift shop and very nice cafe! Close to the National Library, National Gallery and Questacon makes for a great visit.

went here as part of a general wander about Lake Burley Griffin, never been before, was struck on arrival by the friendly staff and ambience. Cafe looked nice though I didn't go in. The gallery itself was quite quirky in a way, often found myself looking in areas I didn't expect. but, after a couple of interesting hours left very... More

Beautiful building, , great exhibitions, great cafe and wonderful shop. Did all my Christmas shopping here once. So easy! And love the cafe. Nice food and lovely place. Have also sung here with my vocal group Shades of Monday. One of the best singing venues.

The portrait gallery has something for everyone! Walking into the main entrance, you are met with beautiful wood and stone design of the building. Natural light flows into all rooms, guiding you around the collection. The balance of colonial and contemporary works was quite good and there is also a whole room dedicated to notable Australian women.

On entry of this excellent gallery addition, I realised that my 'drop in' would immerse me into a delicious morning feasting on the wonderful display. Many were familiar Archibald etc all engrossing. Sorry it has taken me so long to 'discover', this space is now on the must visit in Canberra list.

We had no idea what we would be seeing apart from portraits and we were pleasantly surprised at the variety of portraits from busts, old photographs, paintings, collage, pastels etc. we wished we had more time and will revisit in the future.

I went with high expectations of seeing a lot of famous Australians painted in various styles. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was a bit disappointed. It was a lot smaller and therefore not as many works as I expected. Some real standouts however. I loved the Deb Mailman one.

Sideshow Alley exhibition interesting but weird, possibly put on as a foil for the Roberts exhibition in the NGA. All about bushrangers and other felons from early Australia
