Just the place for a relaxing time to wander, reflect and refind yourself
Jun 2017 • Couples
Check the opening times and then enjoy a nice quiet walk around this beautiful garden, yes its a bit unkept in places, but hey that's part of its charm, not busy (and commercial) like Sissinghurst you can take your time and wander amongst ponds, hedges and wood land trees. Good light refreshments served in the tearooms. Just remember it is what it is, i.e a no frills quite afternoon out and you will not be disappointed. You would be hard pushed to see fox cubs playing metres away from you at Sissinghurst, as we did here at Marle Place.

After checking on-line for Marle Place opening times today ( 24/08/17 ) and finding that today was an open day we set off from Bexhill with guests and arrived approx. 12 noon to find it closed after all . A 65 mile round trip all in all....
Would have been a very disappointing day if we had not found Merriments gardens just off the A21 near Hurst Green ....this saved the day and we would thoroughly recommend should anyone experience the same let down as did we .

Lovely way to spend a sunny day

We had a wonderful couple of hours in the garden. There's something hiding around around every corner, including a couple of great swings.

Very lovely, old fashioned garden

Very laid back but charming gardens and woodlands attached to private house. It was a joy to walk round and to have a very welcome cup of tea in the small tea rooms. Delightful.

Lovely garden

The beautiful historic house is set off by these lovely gardens with the pretty gazebo as an extra touch. Plenty to see, both formal and informal and those energetic enough can explore the woodland walk and see the Big Pond as well as Marl Pit, a small pond nearer the house. Great variety of plants, lovely trees and there's a sweet little tea room with an outdoor seating area if the weather is fine. Plenty of seating around the gardens too.

Even on a rainy day this is a wonderful place.

Six of us, four adults and two young children, visited Marle Pace last Tuesday. Rain had just started but we thought it was just a shower - wrong! Very wrong actually - it poured down for a good hour or so. Did it stop us enjoying ourselves - not one bit. Actually it was rather good as we were the only ones there. We have all been before but every time we go we see something new or different. I would recommend anyone who has the time visit Marle Place - it is absolutely stunning with lots of things to do and see. There is one thing for certain - we will return (hopefully).

Charming gardens - but ma be needing a bit of tlc

Revisited these lovely gardens on the Sunday of early May Bank Holiday and found it charming, quiet, atmospheric and full of birdsong. There are formal gardens and sculptures and lovely walks around two large ponds, the lower of which has Terrapins swimming around. Also an artists gallery and a lovely residential house. Having visited a few years ago I was a little disappointed, whilst appreciating that little gems like these are high maintenance, to find one or two of the flowerbeds poorly tended and the previously lively fishpond and fountain, where there are tables and chairs to take refreshments, full of blanket weed. The service was great however and the lady brought our cake and coffees out to our table. Surprised by the lack of visitors but this may be due to the cost £8 (£7.50 concession) and local competition such as Scotney Castle (NT) and Pashley Manor Gardens within 6 miles of here.

What a hidden gem. Check opening carefully, and you will enjoy a very individual, quirky and unique garden of creative tamed wild wonder, woods, ponds, chickens & cottage garden (supplying their fab cart house tea room: what a wonderful lunch of quiches, frittata, salads breads and chutneys we had!) Very grateful for the friendliness and wonderful stories of a darling buds of May style upbringing in this hidden corner of Kent. Thanks again for our day with you, from UK & Germany!

Glorious gardens, with formal and wild sections and hidden treasure behind each hedge.

A veritable jewel, wonderful gardens to explore, fascinating range of trees, swathes of wild gardens behind the more formal lawns and beds of colourful shrubs. Beautifully restored Victorian greenhouses, housing amazing orchid collection. Good coffee and tea café, with little shop.

Not what it once was

We've visited Marle Place every couple of years for the last ten but it's definitely lost a bit of the love and attention it used to be given - and it shows. It's still a nice family garden but not sure it's of a standard any longer to open its doors to the public. Far better gardens open under the National Garden Scheme or pay not much more and go to Sissinghurst or Pashley Manor.

Oh dear, what a shame. We work just as hard as we always have and now have a glorious tea room with delicious homemade cakes. So sorry you did not feel the energy and magic that surrounds us.
