The Rainbow Reef and White Wall looked even better than when I last dived there in 1985 and so amazing to have this on your doorstep. Still my favourite dives. We especially loved the mix of snorkelling and diving, marine biology, community coral farm and local school bus and snorkelling with the manta rays. Thanks to Jone, Vanessa, Marina and all the crew. The tunnel that comes out at 30m on a vertical wall of white, purple, orange, pink Dendronepthya soft corals, clouds of basslets, reef sharks snd all the weird crittas Jone found for us the biggest Turbinaria cabbage coral Ive ever seen. Best regards Anna and Dan

Thank you so much for your review. It is great to hear that the Rainbow Reef and Great White Wall still are as healthy as in the past, while so many reefs around the world are suffering. The special currents and tidal changes make all the difference between an average and a great dive and we take it personally to chose the right sites at the right timing with our small group of divers. Thank you also so much for contributing to our marine conservation efforts and sharing your expert knowledge in marine biology. Greetings from the whole team and hopefully we will see you back again.

I had 3 wonderful days of diving with Marina and Jona here. All 6 dive sites were fantastic, and we went to the Great White Wall, which many of the Taveuni dive shops weren't going to while I was there because of the tides. The timing wasn't right to see the mantas, unfortunately. On my last dive, Marina let me choose between 2 sites, and I ultimately got to see a great variety of different corals and small fish. I agree with a prior reviewer that it would be nice before the first day of diving to sit down and chat about what we're each most interested in so that the dive sites could be chosen accordingly, but all the sites are so good that I didn't really mind not being asked this. This was the best diving I did in Fiji and certainly rivals the best diving I've had elsewhere, especially macro. (We didn't see many large animals, but that's fine by me.) Each dive had either 2 or 4 of us diving, so it was very personalized. We didn't see other dive groups underwater, which is so much better than diving in places like Hawaii, Great Barrier Reef, etc. which now feel overcrowded. Both Marina and Jona were extremely informed about the sites and the coral/wildlife, and I always felt in great hands. Coming back to shore for surface intervals allowed for access to real bathrooms and snacks, which is lovely; it probably wastes a bit of fuel to come back, but it also means they can use smaller boats, so probably overall this is a very eco-friendly approach. The equipment was in great condition and my only small issue was that it took a few tries to get a wetsuit that fit me, and the wetsuit condition wasn't great, but rental wetsuits always break down fast so this is understandable. Water is a bit chilly in June so I recommend a full-length 5 or 7mm suit! Vanessa is one of their trainees and was fantastic about taking good care of my personal gear like my fins and GoPro and always making sure everything was set up for me. I also love the group's emphasis on sustainability and enjoyed learning about their coral farming. Overall a great experience; I'd definitely return.

Thank you so much for your review. Glad to hear you loved our private dive concept with a maximum of 4 dive guests on the boat, equipment handling, short boat rides where we come back on shore to enjoy homemade treats and above all allow for perfect timings of the dive sites. We chose the dive sites according to experience and local conditions, ensuring that you see a range of diverse sites during your 6 dives with us. Winds or currents might limit the choices. We put safety first and don't make promises that we cannot keep. Same for the Manta trip to Rabi: we only go on this longer trip, when the conditions are safe with a high probabiltiy to see the mantas, which we communicate upfront. Thank you for honoring our flexible schedule that allowed to take you to a deep dive at the White Wall at 6:30am with a long surface break before your next dive. Coming back on shore between dives is part of the concept to make this possible. Hence we use smaller boats, that are perfectly fit for the short boat rides from our base, conditions and group sizes without wasting fuel. If divers want to chose their own times and sites, we are happy to offer a full boat charter. Still the captain and guide will only take guests on dives that are safe. Sorry, that your wetsuit wasn't the right fit on the first try. Some of our rental suits aren't brand new anymore, but they all still keep the divers warm. We recommend to bring own personal equipment, primarily mask, snorkel, wetsuit and computer, whenever possible for reasons of fit and hygiene (we disinfect equipment after the dive). Thank you so much again for contributing to our coral farm. Would be wonderful to see you back for more dives.

If you want to dive the Rainbow Reef, look no further than the Dive Academy! They've been doing this for a while and have a wealth of experience to get you to the best places at the right time. If you're just at the beginning of your diving journey, you will feel safe knowing that Marina takes her job very seriously (she's German, of course she does!). My son had done all the dives required for certification last summer but she wanted to make sure that he's got everything down and basically tested him on everything all over again. She also made sure I knew my stuff, certification notwithstanding since I was at the one year cusp from when I got certified. We dived both with Marina and with Jona who has a contagious laugh and makes you want to laugh with him even under water! So safety: check, fun: check, what else are you waiting for??

Thank you so much for your kind review. It was a pleasure to finish up the remaining skills for your son's certification and taking you along to refresh yours after the course. You both hadn't forgotten anything since your courses a year ago and thus we were good to go on some great dives on the Rainbow Reef, which always comes with a bit of current/drift.

Situated in a remote location far away from the modern world, Marina and Jone have carved out one of the best small private diving guide services anywhere. Only 4 people per boat and 15 minutes away from the famous White Wall, the diving doesn't get any better. We also found their dive shop and resort to be exceptionally charming and well run. The diving equipment was well taken care of, and the home cooked food served in open air villas to be charming after a satisfying day's worth of diving. Our divemaster Jona was funny, experienced and knowledgeable. We are already trying to plan another trip!

Thank you so much for your review. I will pass on your compliments to Jona and our chef Nesi.It was great fun for us to take you under water and teach your wife scuba diving. Now you can enjoy the beautiful underwater world together on your travels around the world and we'd definitely love to see you back. (I might borrow your brain for the upgrade of our solar system). There is so much more to explore at the Rainbow Reef. Thank you also for booking your lunch with us and appreciating our local food concept. Wow - what a fantastic experience we had diving with Dive Academy Fiji in the soft coral capital of the world! The dive shop is well organised, the gear was in great condition, the boat only takes 4 divers at a time making it a super private/ individualised experience, the dive team is knowledgeable, passionate and fun, and every dive site was carefully selected based on the conditions on the day. My husband and I are both advanced certified divers and did 6 dives with Jonah - we loved all of them, especially the Great White Wall which was just spectacular! All the sites are just a short boat ride away so during surface intervals we came back to shore for some lemon leaf tea and cake while the team changed our tanks. It was so easy and relaxing as everything was taken care of for us - all we needed to do was enjoy the diving (and pinch ourselves because of how lucky we felt having all these beautiful sites all to ourselves with no other boats in sight)!

Thank you so much for your review. The Rainbow Reef is indeed one of the last fully intact marine-eco systems. And although the dive spots are the same for everyone, it is the way of organizing the dives that makes all the difference between an average and a great dive. It was our true pleasure to show this unique underwater world to you and create special moments for you as advanced divers. With your booking you help us to continue and expand our marine conservation and community programs. Vinaka vakalevu from the whole team. We hope to see you back - there is so much more to explore.
