We visited the Town Hall museum and were blown away. It was a small museum and free but exhibits were excellent as was the lady who showed us around.

We spent a happy hour viewing the museum and the lady asked if we would like to see the ballroom and mayoral rooms which were amazing. The Little House was a sight to behold. Well worth a visit.

Really just stumbled across Newark town Hall and museum on our 3rd visit to Newark. We arrived with about 30 minutes until closing, definitely not enough time to see everything there. One of the volunteers called Godfrey, a charming fellow, was very knowledge and enthusiastic, he showed us the Assembly room and the mayor's room, he answered all of our questions, which there were many, he even stayed over the closing time to show us around. We will definitely be back to see and hear more of the history and to take advantage of the art gallery. Thank you Godfrey for an enjoyable visit. Helen and Nigel x

Like nearly all previous reviewers I found the museum and town hall excellent. Made perfect by the volunteers guides. Normally I like to explore by myself, but this time I was taken round by a cracking chap. Really made my day. I work in a museum, and if half the staff were as good at customer relations as the ones at Newark we would be a world beater!

A day trip with friends to explore Newark. We were lucky enough to have Ian as our guide round the Town Hall. Very interesting museum on top floor and a beautiful ballroom on first floor. Thank you Ian for showing us around and the information given.

We enjoy our monthly visit to Newark Market, the town and people are all so friendly and it is a very pleasant experience. We have never visited the Town Hall Museum and Art Gallery, on every occasion we say we must explore this element its free admission too. So to day we decided to expand our knowledge of Newark, I took the stairs thinking only one flight oops two flights and a narrow stair case too, Jady took the lift a very wise move indeed. We were greeted by a number of people both staff, volunteers and a local artist too they were all so friendly and helpful. Initially we walked around the art gallery and museum and chatted to the artist who was in the final stages of completing an oil painting of the banks of the river Trent which runs through the town, his work on display in a particular section with scenes of Newark. Carol approached us and offered to guide us around the exhibits we took her up on her offer and our eyes were opened with the magnificent display of art, history objects and the display of photos of the various mayor's showing us more of the history of the town. We were escorted around the grand rooms including the ballroom area. I asked for permission to take photos all OK with Carol explained various historical elements and about the Civil War in England, Cromwell and the Royalist with Newark being at the centre of a number of conflicts four times in fact. We would highly recommend visitors to Newark town to take the opportunity to visit and explore the Town Hall establishment and hope our photos here give a better insight for all. Its free entrance and the facilities can and are used for wedding receptions a very grand venue we might add too, especially for photo opportunities.

I really enjoyed this little museum of Newark Civic history. The paintings are so interesting and the Assembly Room is beautiful. If you are taken around by the very enthusiastic staff then it will all be explained thoroughly.
There is also a room that belongs to a really very small house too.
A good place to include in any visit to the historical town of Newark.

This is a Georgian Gem and overlooks the Market Square. The Town Hall, Mayor's Parlour and Art Gallery are all worth a visit. There is a good permanent collection and a short term exhibition in the next door Spotlight Gallery - currently an exhibition of works for sale from the local Balderton Art Group.

Surprised by the wonderful architecture of Newark's 'Butter Market' with it's colonnaded central passage. Fine for wheelchair access, so long as you do not try to exit on to the main town square as there is no ramp - just steps. Disappointed that they have so many empty retail spaces, but that aside, it's definitely worth a look.

There was an active market the day we visited. The square is picturesque and worth visiting on the way to the museum.

Actually, they meant the Civil War museum, but we saw this small museum instead! It was brought to life by a very enthusiastic guide, who regaled us wth lots of stories - including what Coventry was like in the Blitz when she found out we were from the West Midlands. It was a privilege to be there listening to her. The museum is up two flights of steps, so the lift is a good idea...
