Beautiful
Nov 2021 • Friends
Sit down at one of the surrounding cafes and just take in the beautiful sight of the historic heart of a traditional market town.
On one side is the magnificent town hall (go through the doors for a look around the butter market), another side is overlooked by the splendid church of St Mary Magdalen, peering over the shoulder of Starbucks.
Sit, read, chat and enjoy!

We stayed in a hotel nearby to Newark and visited Newark on a Sunday. There were a few Arts & Crafts stall on the market but nothing special.

Usual fare

A decent selection of the regular stalls you would expect with the fruit and veg merchants putting on some good displays.

What a contrast with Melton Mowbray
Feb 2020
This market has permanent stalls in the Square and seems to have things on most days. However there weren't many stalls occupied which contrasted with the amount in Melton Mowbray earlier the same week. Ok I is early in the year and the weather was cold and wet, but on Thursday (antiques) there were very few sellers, or buyers.. A few more on the general market Friday.

Lovely town

We enjoyed looking round the town and shops as it is a lovely market town but there weren't many stalls which is a shame.

Not what it used to be

I suppose many markets are not what they used to be. Newark's market was very disappointing . Very few stalls. The plant stall was excellent - well stocked at extremely reasonable for excellent plants. The local bakery stall was full of tasty freshly made goodies. The rest was very mediocre.

More tables empty than occupied.
Apr 2019 • Couples
On Easter Sunday, the market advertised its Artisan Craft and Food Market. We prepared to make a day of it expecting a thronging buzzing busy market. Not so. There were about 20 tables occupied, and more empty. It was quiet, although the street entertainers were very good. So disappointing. Luckily it was a very sunny day so we could at least enjoy some coffee and cake outside and listen to the music, but the market was a waste of time.
