Always Excellent

The immigration officers are always attentive, helpful and efficient. It does not take us too long to go through the queue. However, the location is a bit outskirt from the city.

SEKUPANG FERRY TERMINAL, BATAM, INDONESIA
Jan 2020
This is the second ferry terminal in Batam. The ferry terminal is comparatively new as compared to the BATAM FERRY terminal. There facilities and the structure are well maintained. The immigration procedure are efficient and good. There are little activities here, in the way of shops, cafes....... Reckon the terminal caters more for the visitors to the Batam Industrial park !

Clean ferry terminal, limited access to amenities
Oct 2019 • Friends
Its a very clean terminal and has eateries, shops to buy local products before you head home. Other than that, there is not many amenities. However, for hotels near the sea, this is one of the nearer ferry terminal besides Nongsapura terminal.

a visit to Batam ... Sekupang
Mar 2019 • Couples
we visited Batam and pass through Sekupang.
we saw the vast improvement compare to the last visit a few years ago. There are still plenty of shops selling local products.

anything that you need in Batam is available here, though the price is slightly higher compare to what we paid in the city like Nagoya...
A good and convenient place to go.

No nonsense transfer terminal
Sep 2019
This is a transfer terminal out and out. No nonsense about it, literally. You will find signs to keep quiet and not be disruptive. The customs officers stare at you and will not hesitate to put you in place should you speak too loud / talk loudly on the phone / make a fuss, etc.

There are only a handful of 'convenience' shops and the main purpose at this terminal is to be picked up for transfer to the few resorts nearby.

Not a bustling terminal compared to the other Batam terminals.

Corruption and bribery amongst customs officials - Don't bother
Aug 2019
We traveled for a spa day from Singapore on UK passports at a weekend.

We arrived at the Sekupang Ferry terminal expecting a smooth transit.

There was a missing barrier at the customs line which everyone was using as an entrance to the start of the queue. We followed everyone else getting everyone off the ferry and into the queue.

At the front of the queue, our passports were removed from us and we were led off to another room. After waiting an hour, the 'head' customs official took us into the room and asked us why we disrespected his country etc. etc. A real aggressive telling off.

We were being detained due to 'jumping the barrier' which was missing at the start of the customs queue. It is an allegation I am happy to take on the chin, we did not realise it would be so offensive. *Everyone else on the boat took the same route and we were the only ones picked out*.

Later, on being asked to wait in the waiting room again, another officer comes in and explains that this is very common and we would have to go back to Singapore unless we pay 50 SGD each person. Odd as I doubt that any official penalty from a self-respecting nation would at least be in that nations currency.

After refusing to pay we were hauled in front of the 'head' customs officer again and again told off. We were booked onto the next Singapore ferry.

I spotted a tissue box of Singapore dollar on the way out.

During our 4 hour time there, many nationalities of traveler were bought into the room and quizzed for various things.

After a quick google it became apparent that this is quite common in Batam immigration checkpoints. So all became clear that this is part of a systematic corruption of officials in Batam.

It is a shame because the people of Batam are generally very friendly and welcoming. For a developing economy that could and is trying to improve the income of its residents through tourism, it needs to quickly eradicate this problem which seems to be quite common.

I have already dissuaded many friends and colleagues from using the amenities in Batam due to this ordeal.

My advice - if you do go; be very careful of what is going on around you, don't use your phone, don't talk, don't do anything apart from walk slowly to the counter and queue in silence. They will find an opportunity to get you in the
