For our visit, we watched. And the pile of surfers were having a great time riding some good waves.
Sitting on the beach and watching made me want to surf again. I mean, I took a couple of lessons and these waves would be tough for me but watching these guys go for it made me want to try it again.
Lots of places to rent and stay at. Definitely a young vibe.

We spent about an hour on the beach watching the big wave surfers. There was some talk that the Eddie might happen that week, but it was cancelled. The waves were still big, so lots of people were curious like us. The parking lot was full, but we were able to park along the street with no problems. There were public restrooms and outside showers to wash the sand off our feet at the end of our stay.

We drove past the southern end and stopped at the Northern end of the pipeline at Sunset Beach. The entire length of the pipeline is residential and the beach looks untouched. On the day we visited it was rainy so the waves were actually smaller because the wind was blowing the out, according to our tour driver. Either way, the beach was untouched and beautiful.

Paradise! Now I understand why people retire here! The vibe, the waves the Aloha Lifestyle...hard to explain in a review. The waves were pounding, a couple of surfers were shredding, the white sand was so smooth and the wind was calming down the heat. Found a nice shade between Rock Piles Beach and Banzai Pipeline Beach and stayed there for hours. I might seriously change my retirement plans. Cost of living is high, but now I understand why. Mahalo Hawai'i!

We really enjoyed this beach. If you are looking for a quintessential Hawaii beach, this is it. It is white soft sand as far as you can see. We were here in the summer and the waves were still a decent size. Very romantic beach. A must see while in Haleiwa

Absolutely breathtaking! Road to get there is packed and not the greatest but way cool once you get there. Waves are HUGE with best viewing from Sunset Park (I think that was the name). Do NOT swim here! The surf is far too strong for anyone. Bravo to those surfers who take it on!

If you want to see surfing at its best, you need to come to Ehukai Beach Park, commonly known as the Banzai Pipeline. This is the site of many surfing competitions throughout the winter months when the surf is at its highest. While there are better surfing spots in the world, competitions are held here at Pipeline as the surf break is very close to the shore, making it ideal for spectators. I was here when there was no competition going on, during the fall, but you will always find surfers out in the water. Even if they are just practicing, it is an awesome place to watch. If you want to see what this area is like, watch the movie Blue Crush, which was mostly filmed here at Pipeline and along the north shore. Keep in mind that this isn't a swimming beach, and there are a lot of warning signs reminding you to stay out of the water.

We spent Christmas day sitting on this beach, watching the surfers and the 20-plus foot waves. It was amazing.
There's no sign at this beach. It is across the street from Sunset Beach Elementary School. If the parking lot is full, park along the road by the beach. Ted's Bakery is nearby, and that's a great casual place to eat (more than a bakery, actually a restaurant).

For most this is a spectator event. The waves were running about 18 feet and the adept surfers were displaying amazing skills. A few yards down the beach waves only (!) reached 12 feet. Here were the junior varsity surfers. I watched preteens spin their boards 360 degrees on the crest of a wave! I also saw one of the adult surfers being carried out by life guards on a body board. The poor surfer looked to have a back injury.
I’m giving this 4 stars since there is no water access except for the surfers. It is posted against swimming. There is a bath house. Parking is limited. Come before 10 am if you want parking. Look for the Sunset Beach Elementary School and across the street is the parking for this beach.

This is one of the most famous surfer spots in the world. Just watch the waves and you will see why.. They are good! The beach is nice and you can swim there. It is very nice and enjoyable. Not much more can be said about a very beautiful beach and fantastic water.

Is it worth visiting the Banzai Pipeline in late May? Too late for good surfing?

Heading to the North Shore the first week in December. How is the parking by the Pipeline? Where should I park? What's the best place to view it?

We drove on an alley parallel to the beach and found parking there

Hi there! Heading there for a day trip next month as we are staying in Waikiki... Are there vendors selling food nearby? Chairs to sit on the beach? Places for us to swim (kids coming with may get hot or tired from watching surfers)?

Looks like everyone else has already answered your questions. It is definitely a to do item! We love the Pipe and plan on going back next winter.

Traveling alone on the North Shore of Hawaii is fine. People are friendly and helpful. You can inexpensively take the bus to the beaches and sit and relax for many hours. There are hostels to stay at near Waimea Bay that are reasonably priced.

Best place to park for pipeline access?
Written July 30, 2018
There is a small parking lot at the entrance to Banzai but most parking will be parallel parking along the main road. Do NOT park at the school across the street as you will be towed. If a tournament is going on and parking is hard to find, there is a skate park to the south that will have excess parking spaces.

What the best way to travel to pipeline beach from Waikiki without renting a car
Written July 28, 2018
The easiest way is to Uber. We have used them several times to go back and forth to the airport. The cheapest way is to take the local bus.

What time of day is best for watching surfers?
Written April 10, 2018
We were there in mid morning. Ask around and find out what the waves are like. If it’s messy, the good ones may not be out. Enjoy
