As someone who has ocean water in her veins, I confidently recommend this as a MUST Do/See/Experience! My husband was working so I went solo. Parking was easy and reasonably priced, as was the boat ride provided by Traghettatori Riveria Del Conero (I highly recommend them as well). The water was warm and clear, and the scenery was awesome. Sturdy beach shoes are necessary, as others have noted. It was so enjoyable, I booked the same trip for the next day-something I rarely do as there is so much to see when traveling-but unfortunately it rained. Put this on your list!

If you stay in Ancona in summer or autumn and the temperature of the sea is still nice, you really have to go to Portonovo to the beach. I liked it much more than typical tourist beaches like in Rimini and so on, as here, it's mostly locals who enjoy the beach. You can easily get there by public bus, but mind the departure times back, if you miss the last bus back to Ancona, it might get a bit difficult.

This beach is typical of several on this part of the Adriatic Coast with round pebbles and sharp drop into the water - wear sandals or beach shoes. Lounge chairs are available for a fee, as well as a good variety of ocean toys including kayaks, pedal boats, paddle boards, etc. The bar offers light snacks and a variety of drinks at a reasonable cost for a beach resort. Breathtaking views of the ocean - the beach is located on a point of land so that you can actually watch the sunset to one side and the moon rise on the other. Public washrooms and showers provided. We were here in early September when the weather is sunny and warm, and the vacation crowds are gone - we had the beach almost to ourselves. Prices are also considerably lower than in July (example, a lounge chair rents for 30 Euros in July vs. 5 Euros in August).

We spent a day here and will be back ! We rented two lounge seats for 20 total for the day and enjoy sleeping eating and swimming in the most stunning location of portonovo. Make sure you always wear shoes when you swim as there are extremely sharp sea urchins that cling to the rocks and the locals told me that they slice your feet open. Water is so warm and clean and on a Monday the beach was only half full ! Yah . Parking is affordable and can be found right next to the beach - we paid about 3

We like walking and so parked at the turn off to Portonovo and walked down, not a good idea, a busy road. There are several pay car parks down by the beach but I think the place must get hectic in summer and at the weekend. (On a Monday in May there were a lot of people around) We wanted to do the Conero Park path number 309, but spent more time trying to work out where we were supposed to go than actually walking. Beaches nothing special - gravelly and not too comfortable for walking or sitting. Church and tower both closed off to public. Nevertheless the views are nice and we eventually found a bench in the shade near the tower and picnicked and relaxed. I think the reviews depend on what type of beaches you've visited, the environment is more beautiful than the classic "Riviera Adriatica" because of the cliffs and whitish colour of the beach and the green natural envrionment behind, but then the beaches of Sirolo are similar and less complicated to reach. Nice to see but I wouldn't return....

The delightful natural setting of Portonovo is ruined by crass low grade commercial development and noise. On a summer afternoon or evening expect to be blasted out by rival sources of noise from different sides of the beach. Portonovo is a paradise for cars with vehicles encountered round every twist and turn of the byways behind the beach. The boat houses and fishermen’s huts behind the beach are faded and peeling, making the place look like an abandoned industrial zone. The cuisine in the better known restaurants is as expected, though all the fuss about mussels is hard to understand if you have spent any time in Brussels. Overall, the natural splendour of the site is overshadowed by tasteless and intrusive human development.

Great beach with some restaurants. We really enjoyed the mountains around us. You can feel the nature here. A must if you are in Ancona.

Nice and clean beach where you can rent sun beds and umbrellas or just lay on your towel. The beach is partly stones partly sand. Nice views, good for swimming. During season it can be full and also parking might be a problem. Don’t forget to book a table for lunch at Da Emilia. It serves slow food, fresh mussels and local wines.

Beautiful beach in a natural and historic place.
It's difficult to park near the beach so I suggest to use a bus or a scooter.
