- vip_foodieBengaluru, India3,410 contributionsElephant Safari is a must do (Can skip Jeep Safari)Early Morning Elephant Safari happens at two time slots and generally the tickets need to be pre booked in advance. The official cost is close to 1000 bucks but agents buy the tickets and sell them at higher price. It was my first time doing this kind of safari and it was pretty amazing. I loved the early morning nature vibes. I was able to spot one horned rhinos from very close. This Elephant Safari happens in Western Range of park which is 10-15 kms from Central Range. Central Range Kaziranga National Park Jeep Safari at Kaziranga can accommodate 5-6 people at a time and if you are less people you can go and club with other people. The total duration is of 2 hours. We were able to spot some wild birds, deers, iguana, chameleon & rhinos during the safari. Spotting wild animals like tigers and leopards depends on your luck most of the time. Cost for a jeep comes out be roughly 3000 bucks after all permits and taxes for Central Range.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten February 21, 2024

I had taken the elephant safari (approx 1 hr) from the western range and begins early in the morning(5.45am)Jeep safari from the central range happens post lunch(2pm)Tickets are available manually at the gates for all and can be assisted by the driver or the travel agent. April 30 is the official last day of safari at KNP , however can be extended as per mgt discretion. One can see the rhinos from close proximity in elephant safari and is an unforgettable experience. In jeep safari you can see rhinos, bison, monkeys , deers and elephants in plenty.Other wild animals viewing will be your luck as it is known for rhinos. Overall the family enjoyed this trip. Do not carry any packaged food. Also carry sun shades, cap and mask in jeep safari as the road is very dusty.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 3, 2024

There are different zones in the national park. You can chose between jeep or elephant safari. Unlike other parks in India, the jeep route is single and jeeps go as a convoy. 90% you will spot a Rhino. The demand is high for elephant safari so you may have to talk to your resort/home-stay managers to block the slot.
Apart from Rhinos, its a paradise for bird lovers. You will also spot hog deer, swamp deer, elephants and bunch of other animals.
Overall it was a nice experience.
For DSLR camera, they will charge Rs 100/-

Set in a serene location, there are safaris at different times of the day. We chose the morning Jeep safari as the elephant safari was unavailable due to over booking. Comes close to 2.30 hours and was a great experience. Could spot quite a few animals. The hotels where you stay usually have tie ups that pick up and drop you there.

For wildlife enthusiasts and photographers, Kaziranga is a dream come true. The park is the largest habitat for one-horned rhinos, and you can get remarkably close to them. Kaziranga is relatively accessible, with nearby airports and railway stations. It is about 5 to 6 hours journey from Guwahati.
The park is not only a biodiversity hotspot but also holds cultural significance. It is adjacent to the homeland of the Assamese people, and the park is a part of their cultural heritage. The park houses a diverse range of wildlife, including tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo, swamp deer, and countless bird species.
Visitors can explore Kaziranga through thrilling safaris, including jeep safaris and elephant safaris. Some zones within the park offer guided nature walks. When going on a safari, make sure to wear glasses and a mask to shield yourself from blowing sand. Carrying a handkerchief can also be helpful. There are no shops available inside the park, so it's advisable to carry essentials like water and snacks with you. Be prepared for limited restroom facilities, especially inside the park. Jeep safaris can be a bit expensive but are worth it. You can share the cost with a group of 5 or 6 people, would cost around Rs 3000. During the safari, it's important to stay inside the jeep for safety reasons. You are allowed to disembark only at designated spots. The guides and the people here are extremely helpful.
The Western zone boasts high animal density, including rhinos and elephants. The Central zone, while having fewer animals, is still beautiful.
November to April is the ideal time to explore Kaziranga Tiger Reserve. Visiting the Park during the early morning or sunset hours is highly recommended. The park is closed during the monsoon season (June to October) due to flooding. The permits are usually available at the park's entrance gates. It's advisable to check the current entry fees and regulations before planning your trip.

This is one of the few National Parks which has large water bodies, amidst lush forests and mountains on all sides. huge variety of birds and the one horned rhinos with their babies were an awesome sight to behold. of course, elephant herds are everywhere with their babies. we could not spot a tiger, though we would have if we had ventured out during the midnight safari, which can be done with special prior permission from the forest authorities. We stayed at The Mandu the retreat, which itself was out of the world.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National park and Tiger Reserve is spread across about 430 sq km in Assam. It is home to the world’s largest population of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros (about 2,500 of them at present), besides elephant (about 800), tigers (131), wild water buffalo, wild boar, hog deer, sambhar deer, and many species of birds, insects, reptiles and more. A range of hotels, resorts and home stays are available in the areas around the fringes of the park. We were staying near the town of Kohora, which is the main entrance to the park; here, within a few minutes’ drive of each other, are gates to the Central and Western Ranges of the park, both of which can be explored through safaris.
We chose to opt for both the elephant safari (which is for the duration of one hour and leaves in the morning, about 6:30) and the jeep safari (three hours, from 1:30 to 4:30). The elephant safari let us get closer to rhinos: we saw about a dozen of them within one hour. The jeep safari was more immersive; it took us deeper into the park, and we saw many more species, as well as a far more spectacular landscape. If you have a full day in Kaziranga, I would recommend going for an elephant safari (from Bagori, in the Western Range) in the morning and a jeep safari in the afternoon (from the Central Range) for the most enriching experience. The elephant safari costs a little over Rs 5,000; the jeep safari about Rs 4,000.

Hello friends, wanted to post this to share my experience of elephant safari in Kaziranga. One side of it everyone will like it but the other side which I have experienced is, that it's more of pain to the elephant then pleasure to us. If you are lucky to get the right Mahouts-elephant rider then it's fine but in case the rider is not willing which you will not understand as most of the time they will communicate in local language they will try to fool you. With me it happened like the rider tried to rush and close its duty and was abusing and beating the elephant all the time. He just quickly made the circle in the park and closed it. So we paid around Rs3500 for watching 2 rhinoceros and alot pain to the animal. If you are looking to get good photographs using your dslr it's another pain as the elephant rider will not stop for you.
As such Kaziranga National park is excellent to see wildlife but would request all to take jeep ride.

Good jeep safari to see animals. Lots of rhinos. Some are really gigantic keep the camera ready to click. Elephant also can be seen if you are lucky. Even from main road we could see elephants and Rhino. I could spot few from a lake view point. Worth visiting once, may not be worth for multiple times unless you are wild life enthusiast. Safari on elephant available but i haven’t tried that.

Will definitely recommend that one takes the Elephant ride than the Jeep Safari.
There is a schedule for the visiting hours and sections and accordingly you can plan your trip.
You will most likely to site - Rhinos, Elephants, Water buffalo and sambar

Hi, I am visiting Jeep safari and Elephant safari in 1st week December 2022. Kindly suggest if 2:30 PM jeep safari and 5:30 AM elephant safari timing is good for the view and citations? Thanks.
Written November 5, 2022
hi...i have read the review in trip advisor....my question is when to book the elephant and jeep safari?either on that day or before one day..? please answer...
Written October 7, 2019
Elephant safari's timing is early morning around 4am so book that a day before. Jeep Safari can be booked on the same day as well.

What are the hours and weather in the park at the end of February?
Written October 8, 2018
The weather at the end of February will be pleasant. You can opt for early morning Elephant safari (best for rhino spotting) which starts at 5.30am to 6.30am or the second batch from 6.30am to 5.30am. The hotel where you stay will arrange the safari for you. You can also take the jeep safari which is from 7.30am to 10am and second batch from 2pm to 4pm. It is sunny in afternoon but a hat and sunscreen will be enough. I would suggest to take Elephant safari in morning and jungle jeep safari in evening.
