Usually you have to take a shuttle (40000 Rp) to the entrance but when we went they just flagged us up. Ladies have to have their shoulders and back covered. Wear a t-shirt or you can rent the sarong and wrap for 10 000 Rp....More
We got there around midday so there was a bit of a line for gateway pics. It's a bit of drive from Kuta so good to couple with Tirta Ganga water palace on a day trip. Cloud covered Mt Agung but it was still worth...More
First the good news: the temple where everyone takes a picture is a short 5 minute hike and seeing it from below is pretty cool too. Everyone focuses on seeing Mt Agung through the gate split but I thought seeing it from the other side...More
I booked thru Viator and found these are joined. We had the best experience and can't say enough about our driver Gusti Lanang Selat--he was so professional, good English, well informed, great driver and great sense of humor! He made our experience so enjoyable by...More

Beautiful temple in the far eastern part of the island of Bali, looking on to Mount Agung. Lots of stairs and a steep climb await you, but it is well worth the hike. Yes, its popular with photoseekers and far out from everywhere, but if...More
From Ubud 3 hrs drive to Abang, Bali.
Better to be there earlier, if you wish to take a photo on the gates, just give your phone/camera to the incharge and just give tips/ donation.

I saw photos on social media a while ago and I was amazed (as I expected the place to look like the photos). Luckily I spoke to some friends who lowered my expectations drastically so I wasn't disappointed in the reality of these photos.
It was a complete let down for us.
I was expecting some hassle with costs and travel time and other tourists but not to this extent.
First thing is getting there is a mission in itself with the small roads and traffic.
Payment for truck...More

actually you need 4 hours to do the full touring around this temple. because it has many spots to explore. but if you only want to take pictures in this area just as i did, 2 hours including the queuing time is enough. therefore, you can't do the batur's hike and visit lempuyang at the same day. the best time to go is before sunrise or sunset but its also depend on the weather too...

Hi J, actually you can not see sunrise from the Gate or Mt.Agung as background with Sunrise, as Mt.Agung located in Northside of Island. Sunrise will arise east side of temple. With my experienced climb up the Lempuyang hill ( Bisbis hills) or local called Mt.Lempuyang at 6am they already open. If you want avoid the crowd of tourist taking photo at the Gate of Heaven ( Lempuyang Madya Temple....Madya mean mid area of temple, which exactly the gate of heaven located), maybe morning will be less tourist, crowd will be more after 8am, as today more and more tourist attract to take photo session at the gate. But if you plan for Sunrise trekking I can recommend start from East Side track at Bukit Kangin or east side of the Lempuyang hills/mountain, track bit tricky compare with the normal track from the Gate Of heaven. But from Bukit Kangin ( or eastern side hills/Mount Seraya) you perhaps can see Sunrise from east side of East Bali. Hope thats info help. Thanks

Hallo May L
For now yes still can ride motorbike until the upper parking at the entrance ticket gate. But as sometimes ceremony held probably motorbike also not allowed to get until on top. But it's a shuttle using pick up car by local you can get, with IDR 20,000,-/Person/Way. Actually the gate of heaven/the famous gate Instagramable are not on top. So you can park at ticket entrance parking. To get to the Gates you need small climb not even hundreds stair, but if you talk about the main temple is actually on top hills/mountain. So its easy to reach if you mean the Gates of heaven that's famous on Instagram.
We are torn between which temple to visit whilst we stay in Ubud. Should we do both, just one or neither of these two?

It really depends on what you want from a temple visit. Besakih is the Mother Temple, the most important temple in Bali. There are reports of "issues" with visits (use the search bar above) but also reports that things have improved recently. Pura Lempuyang is a series of temples climbing the side of a mountain and can take many hours to see. If you want the "instagram" shot at the gates, there is often a very long wait in a queue for your turn. Recently, my friend told me it was 1.5-2...More
Itinerary Help! 4 Days in Ubud (20 Replies)
Hi all! I am planning my first trip to Bali coming up in a short 3.5 weeks! Been trying to read as many posts as possible and putting together a list of things I would like to do/see. I only have 4 full days based from Ubud before moving on to Nusa Lembongan for some diving and snorkeling. Below is a rough itinerary for my days on the main Island of Bali, please advise if this is do-able or anything should be changed. I would like to see some of the temples in Eastern Bali but am unsure...More

I am bumping this for you as well as doing some notes: 1) Don't plan on doing both rafting and Batur volcano on same day..esp if it's your first! 2) Tegallalang is halfway up to Batur, you can combine those, or even do a bike tour that goes up to Batur... 3) Talk to your driver because the way you put it together is a bit of back and forth. There are other things to do besides just temples, the Mask and Puppet Museum is really interesting and is very close to Goa Gajah. Day 4>...More
Places to visit with lempuyang temple (2 Replies)
Im planning a day tour to see sunrise at Lempuyang temple, followed by tirta Gangga. Since we are leaving early morninf (3:30am from seminyak), What would be a great place to visit one more place on the way back apart from Ubud, beach, and another water place or water fall (since we are doing these the next day)? Somewhere great to see nature, enjoying the scenery for great photo spots would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

Hi BKJUST, Seminyak to Lempuyang even at 0330 will take over 2hrs to the car park. Expect to arrive maybe shortly before 6am. Sunrise 06:30 Do you know that Pura Lempuyang is actually the top temple of a series of temples. It takes 3hrs to walk there from the car park, Do you actually mean the "Dragon Staircase" temple and Gate which is 5mins or so from the car park. The gate/temple faces Mt Agung not east. The generalroute to/from Seminyak will take you over the coast/Padangbai....More
