Melba's Chocolate Factory is a 'working' tourism factory located in a heritage listed complex 40 minutes from Adelaide at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. From 1919 the South Australian Farmers Cooperative Union made the site famous by producing cheese, butter, margarine and small goods, which were recognised worldwide. This activity ceased in 1976. From that year, the buildings lay abandoned until 1990 when the current proprietors and directors, Joy and Graeme Foristal arrived. With 1940's era chocolate and confectionery making equipment, they began their dream making old Australian favourite chocolate and confectionery. The complex developed from there and is now known as 'Heritage Park' and has become home to other cottage industries. Visitors today find the old cheese factory transformed into a large emporium styled confectionery factory shop. This is a centerpiece for 5 different rooms, where various manufacturing processes can be viewed. These are the Chocolate Room, Depositing Room, Packing Room, Panning Room and Toffee Room. Visitors are encouraged to speak to the staff who have mastered the use of the heritage equipment, making old fashioned favourites in the time honoured tradition. Old favourites such as, Inch Licorice Block, Traffic Lights and Rocky Road. To tempt chocolate lovers, there is the constant aroma of chocolate and confectionery being made.....yum! An additional interesting feature is the collection of antique and quaint memorabilia from times past, which can be found on display around the factory walls. All in all, this package makes the factory a popular family attraction as well as a significant Hill's destination for families, groups, charters and interstate, national and international visitors.

There is so much chocolate and a lot of variety. It is great to just wander around and they had chocolate in every shape and size. The smell was delicious.

Living in Adelaide, we tend to take places like Melba's for granted, but recently took an Egyptian PhD student here - and realised how blasé we get. Actual hand made choccies that taste so good, not mega production line stuff. Love the fact they have...More

We bought our chocoholic and confectionery obsessed friend here, she loved it and spent up big. The chocolate is not to my taste, but I would definitely bring my grandkids if we go back to Adelaide.

It was cold inside, but buying chocolate helps! We walked from the town on a winters day past horse paddocks. Nice. Friendly young lady gave my daughter a free chocolate because it was her birthday.

Must do if touring the Adelaide Hills. We visited late on a Saturday afternoon looking for a coffee spot and the place had plenty of visitors in this heritage factory. Started with coffees and my hot choc in a mug was a delight. It comes...More

On a cold rainy day what could possibly be any better than to do a chocolate trail. One of our stops was to Melbas Chocolates and it was by far the highlight of our day out. With 5 viewing windows you get to see how...More

Melbas Chocolate and Confectionery are all wonderful. To visit the Factory at Woodside and watch some of the production then make some purchases makes for a great stop on a drive in the Hills.

Absolutely do not miss this! All those sweets you ate as a child (and perhaps a few you wish you hadn't). What a fabulous range of chocs, toffees, licorice and boiled sweets.🍫🍭. Stay for a coffee also.

Chocolate everywhere, more people than I've seen in one spot before. Buses pull up and the shop looks already full yet a whole bus load squeezed in. The chocolate looks delicious and you can't help but buy some and later wish you had bought more...More
