About
Ponderosa Ranch is one of the island’s most well respected horseback riding ranches in Aruba. One in a long line of a horseman, Lucho Claro has a lifetime’s worth of experience, having been raised on a horse ranch in Cartegena, Colombia, and now having spent more than 30 years in Aruba, involved in the local and regional show circuit, training different horses (including “Casanova,” an island grand champion) and providing riding instruction

- Dan SAtlanta, Georgia3 contributionsGreat way to experience ArubaWe were on a cruise ship excursion sponsored by Celebrity Cruise Lines and booked this excursion. It was a very worthwhile way to spend our time in port in Aruba. The horseback ride was lots of fun. The horses were easy to manage. Daniel and Pedro were our tour guides, both very capable and friendly. We did the walk through the desert to the ocean. It was super scenic with amazing views. Would highly recommend this tour, either through a cruise ship excursion or just as part of a visit to Aruba. One recommendation: wear long pants. I wore shorts, and the straps for the stirrups rubbed against my legs and hurt.Visited February 2020Written February 26, 2020
- rjswayzeNashville, Tennessee4 contributionsONE OF THE BEST THINGS IN ARUBA!We were a party of four and wanted to experience Aruba from a non-tourist perspective. We chose La Ponderosa horse back riding because the attendant at our hotel recommended them. We were not disappointed! Daniel, our guide was absolutely amazing, calm, and kept riders with little to no experience calm while encouraging confidence. I can't say enough about the ride - I am an avid rider, but this would not have made a difference as the horses were calm and knew what to do without a lot of guidance. Great experience and one of the best things to do in Aruba! Don't miss this opportunity - you'll be glad you did it.Visited June 2021Written July 1, 2021
- Tish1 contributionTrot to the OceanMy husband and I went on the horseback riding adventure with Daniel and Pedro. They both were very helpful with matching a horse to fit our experience. The horses had just enough spunk without being too docile. We both enjoyed our ride to the beach. It was nice to see the undeveloped areas with plant life and animals that you would normally miss in Aruba near a hotel. The beach was very beautiful! The arched rock is amazing!Visited December 2019Written January 11, 2020

My family did a morning tour which ended up being private because no one else booked it. 😎. The tour was awesome beautiful sights of the desert and ocean. Our children are 7 & 9 and definitely nervous having never been on a horse. The guides were excellent with them, wish I could remember their names, they rode with them and I could hear them constantly checking on them to make sure they were ok. The horses literally know the trail and you don’t have to guide them at all. As far as the ride IT IS HOT, there is nothing you can do about it. Bring water, wear sunblock and a hat. We also had on sneakers and jeans. A review I read, while on the island and I couldn’t pack their suggestion, had mentioned women wearing a sports bra. That is 💯 excellent advice! As someone who is not big chested I still found myself wishing for more support while the horse was trotting. No question would book this again!!!

We loved our tour with La Ponderosa Ranch. Our horses were beautiful and very easy to ride. It was my very first time horseback riding, but Martini knew what he was doing. We totally recommend this excursion and can't wait to do it again!

Rancho La Ponderosa is a very friendly place and made me feel welcome. Daniel, Luca gave us instructions before we even mounted our horses. The tour included a little trotting, galloping and walking. We briefly went through a neighborhood, then part of a desert like area then along the beach where you saw the waves crashing into the rocks. The guides stopped and took our pictures and stopped to give the horses a brief rest as we looked at the old gold mine. Daniel would also tell us along the way how to handle the horses. I really enjoyed this experience and would definitely do it again. Thanks to everyone at the Rancho La Ponderosa.

My husband and I took our two sons riding with Susan from Rancho La Ponderosa. She was simply amazing! She was very patient and made sure the boys were fine during the entire ride. She was very friendly and had a comforting personality. I highly recommend this tour when you are in Aruba, you will not regret it.

Rancho La Ponderosa was incredible! The team took great care of everyone and made sure they were given the right horse based on experience. Our guide Daniel was phenomenal, very interactive, and very knowledgeable about all of the horses. The ride was beautiful and took us to some awesome spots around Aruba. A trip you MUST do if you’re in Aruba!

Had a blast on the beautiful Wariruri Beach
tour! It was easy to book with our concierge at the hotel, the pick up and drop off was included and was prompt right at our lobby entrance. The two hour tour was the perfect length and the views undeniably beautiful. The tour guides, Daniel and Pechi gave easy instructions and made us feel comfortable on the horses. It was a great way to explore Aruba! Highly recommend!

Fabulous two hour tour. My 11 and 13 year old and I have done this type of tour all over the Caribbean and US and these are the best horses. We started here 6 years ago when my youngest was only 5. Still so great! Great people working there as well and great scenery. Even go through some local neighborhoods which was cool. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend this horseback riding adventure! Our guide, Luca, was very experienced and fun. Great horses and great views. We were picked up at our hotel by Luis and once we arrived at the ranch we were welcomed by Carmen. Both were were very warm friendly people. My fellow traveller has been coming here to ride since 2006. We wouldn’t ride anywhere else.

My siter, niece and I had a great time on our horseback riding adventure with Daniel. I had the honor od being paired with Balashi. He was perfect for me. Riding through the desert and onto one of the most beautiful beaches in the world was an amazing experience. I highly recommend Rancho la Ponderosa. The horses were all healthy and well cared for. It was obvious that Daniel and the other guides cared for each and every one.

My husband and I want to go on one of your tours but have been reading the reviews and noticed that people mentioned cantering and trotting. We have gone riding before in Nevada and in Arizona and both were just nice slow rides and I had no problems even though I have some back problems. Do you have to trot or can we just walk the horses

The ride that I was on included a lot of gaiting and some cantering. There was a guide at the front and back so maybe if you told them ahead of time that you only wanted to walk you could stay towards the back. These were Paso Fino horses and they don’t trot, they have a quick gait which is much smoother for the rider.

I am wondering if you can take the horses to actually walk in the surf/water at any point? We are really wanting to be able to ride at the water's edge and are trying to choose accordingly. I am also curious if they show you how to use all 5 gaits of the Paso horses?
thanks

I have been trying to make a reservation on line but I am not sure if it went through. It does not ask me for credit card information and I do not get a confirmation email. Can you tell me the procedure to make a reservation? I have tried sending an email also and no response. Thank you.

Mentioned on site that up you board horses and prepare horses for show? How many stalls do you have for boarders? How much is the board? Where do you go to show? Do horses get shipped to Venezuela? Asking for a possible future retirement . Currently I am a competitive rider in reining which is western and own 2 quarter horses. Do people import their own horses? Do the Dutch import big warm bloods or are paso finds best because it's desert here. Thanks

Hello, We will be vacationing at the end of March and interested in one of your tours. Wanted to know if there was an age requirement? I have a 11 and 13 yr old who would be joining us.
Thank you!

No age requirement my daughter is 12 and they were more than accommodating. I would recommend the private tour, it's more expensive but well worth it. I wouldn't go with any other ranch. Enjoy!!
