We went out on the New Horizon boat with Captain Spence and first mate Eduardo on Wednesday, February 24 and had a fabulous time. We checked in right by the Margaritaville hotel at 8:30 and we were on the boat by 9:00 with our fitted fins. The captain explained all the safety information and everything we needed to know for the day and we headed out towards St John from St Thomas. We were served some lovely bread, pastries and fruit for breakfast along with whatever we would like to drink, non-alcoholic, on the ride over to our first stop at Maho Bay were the sea turtles like to hang out. We saw quite a few turtles and a few pretty fish and it was awesome. Our hosts were very good at helping us deal with the equipment and helping us figure out how to use it for those of us who are first time snorkelers. We had a very nice lunch with sandwiches, Caesar salad, shrimp, fruit and a lovely chocolatey brownie for dessert. Once we got to that they all drinks were flowing for open bar once the captain knew we could all swim and we’re doing OK. The painkillers were fabulous! We boated to two other areas to do more snorkeling and enjoyed the company, the music, and the drinks. One lady got over in a spot with a little bit of a current that we were pre-warned not to get into and Edoardo very calmly instructed her and then prepared himself and went in after her and took her over to that beach/coral area so she could see all the cool fish over there, we felt very safe with our crew. Both Spencer, and Edoardo gave us some historical information about the islands we were seeing in the passageways and about the nautical life as well as a few celebrities and wealthy folks with places in the area which was pretty cool. We saw some incredible yachts while we were out there, a guy parasailing, and the most beautiful color water that you will ever see. The multi colored blue waters is something you can’t hardly take your eyes off of. With the drinks still flowing we headed back for a nice little cruise around Saint John where we learned about some of the bags we were looking at, one of which was Trunks bay, that we had visited a couple days before Beachside so it was really cool to see it from the ocean side. We cruised into the dock right about 3 o’clock as we were told we would be and the captain helped us off make sure we had all of our things with us and Edguardo had all of our shoes lined up in a row for us on the dock to slip into on our way out. These gentlemen mostly work for gratuities like in the restaurant world and offer one made sure that they got a good tip because I thought they were awesome. My husband and I and our friends with us highly recommend this fun day in the Caribbean waters. If you’re staying at the Margaritaville resort your back one hour before happy hour from 4 to 6, two for one drinks, so all the better!
