My two day / one night stay and adventure hiking Somoto Canyon was a fabulous experience. From the professional welcome extended by Henry and Brian, to the informed and fun tour led by Rigoberto, to the tasty meals at the nearby restaurant, everything exceeded expectations. They covered it all, down to providing good hiking shoes for slippery rocks and necessary and frequent swims. I highly recommend this operator and this adventure. It ranks in the top of my experiences in Nicaragua.

My wife and I visited over Christmas. We took the 4 hour canyon tour. It was amazing - probably the most exciting thing we’ve done in the entire country. Our guide was Noel. In a pick-up, we were taken on a bit of a drive up to the canyon. We walked for 20 minutes or so, until we arrived. The next 2-3 hours were one big thrill on canyoning. We crawled over big rocks in some places, and floated downstream in the clear mountain water in other places. Noel was a great guide. He told us about the landscape, the surrounding areas, but he also gave us our space. The pace was perfect. After the most tricky canyoning, we took a small boat, which rowed us to the end of the “wet” part of the tour. After that, we walked the last party. The views were unparalleled - fantastic change to enjoy an untouched part of nature. Back at the compound, we were served an amazing chicken lunch, while we were being joined by Bryan, who told us a great deal about the local project as well as his own history. Lunch was delicious and people were extraordinarily friendly. We highly recommend this outdoor activity, offered at a very fair cost. This trip in Colorado would cost you $100 each or more. It’s also extremely easy to reach, on the Nica 1 highway a straight shot up from Managua.

Such a great day exploring the incredibly beautiful somoto canyon, we had the place to ourselves to enjoy hiking, floating, jumping and swimming. Would highly recommend taking the overnight deal with accommodation and dinner included.

We had a great experience at Somoto Canyon Tours, we arrived at the Somoto terminal and knew that we wanted to go to the canyon but had no idea where we would be staying. A very nice lady came to us and arranged everything for us. Henri, one of the owners, came to pick us up and bring us to the hostel/family home free of charge! The hostel was very clean and very enjoyable, the people that work there are very nice and provide you with everything that you need. If ever you have trouble speaking spanish, Brian, the owner of the place is a very nice English man and he will always make sure that you have everything you need!! The tour itself was amazing an very safe too, all the guides are very professional, very friendly and considerate. Our guide Rigo was especially very very good, he talks a lot, dances and sings during the tour, he is really funny but also very professional and will help you with anything that you need during the tour, be it water, help to climb up the cliffs, or encouragement to jump when you are scared (without pressuring you at all). Plus, Rigo even took us on a free 2 hour trek the afternoon of the day before our tour and showed us around the national park and took us to see the beautiful sunset over the border of Honduras. All in all, we had an amazing experience and were treated really well at Somoto Canyon Tours! If you are to go to the Somoto Canyon, you have to book it with Somoto Canyon Tours!!

A great hike and float tour. We enjoyed every moment! Not trained and with a basic condition it was nicely challenging. The lunch was basic and good tasting. You could even choose your meal! Our guide Joshee had a lot to tell about nature and of a great help!

Thank you Margreet for your comments. Indeed it is possible to do the 6 hour tour even if you are not trained and particularly fit. A general level of average fitness is all that is required. And a love of nature and getting wet! We have adventurers from age 6 to 76 joining this tour!
