Well preserved and easy to get to. Definitely eat at the stalls outside if you're craving home cooked food.

There is a fascinating place, the Palenque ruins are diferente than any other ones in Mexico. I like the pyramids and the surroundings because are settle in the jungle.

These ruins and the surrounding forest have a mysterious and enchanting vibe. I usally don't hire guides, but I did this time, and it was well worth it. He explained some aspects of its history I would have forgotten or not known about. He took me into the jungle as well to get a much better sense of just how... More

Very impressive place with a mysterious atmosphere in the middle of a forest. For me one of the best ruins in Mexico.

Worth the drive, we started our journey in Tuxtla Gutierrez (Chiapas). Once we arrived it was a little humid (muggy) but since you are in the jungle it is expected. Everything around you is green, the plants, the grass you name it. We did get a guided tour (for my dad) and this young man knew his stuff, great knowledge... More

First of all, the ruins are amazing and many others have already described the site well. Beautiful setting and interesting ancient buildings. Unfortunately most of the site is roped off so you can only see the main structures that have been restored. However, there are some things to be careful of. First of all watch out for the guides. On a 2 weeks trip through Mexico and Guatemala we sofar visited the Maya ruins at Tulum, Coba, Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Tikal and Palenque. Altough it is near impossible to rate them, Palenque stands out as a close to perfect fusion between Culture and Nature. I am travelling for a while in mexico and palenque ruins are the best in mexico i have ever seen. It is huge, amazing and impressive. must go.

You have to go there as soon as possible...it opens at 8...so be there at 8 and enter the site before the groups and souvenir vendors...it's magic... first go and see averything in a glompse just to know it is to be seen and than come back to the places you liked to see it in details.
