Don't get me wrong, Cape Leveque is a nice enough spot, but it just isn't worth the drive up there. We were booked into a "camp ground unit" at Kooljiman and other than the last 3km it was sealed road all the way. The issue was that there were no other roads off the main road you were allowed to go down, so it was a long way to travel for a mediocre setting at the end. Covid-19 means that you are not even allowed to get to the end of One Arm point or any of the other settlements on the way.
At Kooljiman we paid $200 for a unit next to the campsite toilet block (think shed). Although it looked clean enough we awoke in the middle of the night with multiple cockroaches crawling over us!
The 2 course dinner was a little expensive at $45 each but was actually very good
Overall, I would say don't bother going up as the scenery at the end of the road is just not worth it!
I understand why the local residents up the Cape don't want a load of tourist going down their roads but if they don't get the balance better people will just not bother and take their $$ elsewhere.

I gave a lower score because 1) Although it is sealed, it is a very long drive to get there; and 2) when you do get there, the road to the actual cape lookout is closed. Although the fish hatchery and the beach lookout at One Arm Point is there, without also being able to drive to the very top of the cape, which people have told me is spectacular, is the 2.5hr drive each way worth it? We'd packed a picnic lunch from Broome and enjoyed it overlooking a lovely ocean view at One Arm Point. We were there for a change of tide and could see a very rapid flow of water going past into King Sound. The peacefulness was most enjoyable, but the experience could perhaps be achieved in areas closer to Broome. Another drawcard is the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. We hadn't intended going as we thought it would be too commercial. We did go and were surprised by how relaxed the place was. We didn't know you could stay there. A good atmosphere indeed. And yes, you can do the boat tour of the pearl farm and attend a talk on pearls and jewelry. But you didn't have to. Unless you have a good 4WD, the first stop to see history is Beagle Bay which is 1hr 40mins from Broome. Then another hour to One Arm Point.

Spent a very enjoyable overnight stay at Cape Leveque when travelling with a tour group through the Kimberleys recently.
The stunning sunset / sunrise double is a must for any photographer, the safari tent accomodation was great, and would certainly recommend it to anyone travelling in this region.
It is certainly a place that we could have stayed at for several days and fully explored it.

Nice to look at from the restaurant. Friendly staff. It was the chef’s day off so food was mainly hamburgers which were ok. Shop at reception was expensive. We couldn’t go to the beach as we would have had to pay entry fee.

Not worth the effort. Scenery is ok but not as good as Gantheume Point. Beaches are average
And no where near as good as Cable beach.. A long list of areas you are not allowed to go because they are "significant" but guess what, if you are prepared to pay for a tour gguide they are not quite so "significant". Oh this is after you pay $20 per person to walk down to the beach by the way. Will not be rushing back

You can only access the now closed Cape Leveque if you book a tagalo g tour with one of the local Aboriginal chaps.
The resort / caravan park has gone to ruin. But the tour will take you to sime amazing beaches and creeks that you can't usually experience unless you're a native.
Stay local at Lombadina or Cygnet Bay & book a tour otherwise you cant experience much of the peninsular at all.

Forget about the friendly welcome here unless you speak with a young person. Older female has cranky pants on each day and older man never cracks a smile. Perhaps they need a holiday.
The brochure states frozen bread available but when hubby asked for a loaf the cranky female informed him “no we don’t and who told you that ?” He informed her it is in your brochure.
They don’t have anything at all in the way of basic supplies so make sure you stock up. Unbelievable really when you think they still serve breakfast and lunch so are obviously getting deliveries of food stores.
The ablutions in the camp ground are disgraceful and desperately need upgrading or demolishing. There are fairly new ablutions on the far side of the camp if you want to queue for ages or go later in the night.
On a brighter note the back beach is the highlight of Kooljaman and enjoyable for all ages. Our morning coffee made and served each morning by the gorgeous friendly barista was delicious and enjoyed by all.

We stayed for 3 nights at Kooljaman on the tip of the Cape in August - off the grid; no phone; no internet - just relaxation.
A great spot with plenty of exploring, a great swimming beach, and some fantastic snorkeling wth plentiful coral and tropical fish.
Our accommodation included a BBQ so it was easy to cook dinners.
Plenty of red Kimberley sand!
The Communities were not open due to Covid-19, but we did take the short drive to Cygnet Bay for dinner one night.
Thoroughly recommended.

Disappointed to find the majority of the Dampier Peninsula now closed off to everyone this isn't a "local" - if you know you know. I wouldn't bother going any further north then the 50km or so strip up the west coast just north of Broome. That's amazing and what the whole country should be like. The government should be ashamed.

A Stunning array of colours as deep red dirt from the Pindan Cliffs falls onto white sand and then tumbles into the endless aquas of the ocean.
Peaceful, unique, spectacular. Definitely worth the drive out to Kooljaman to have a swim and watch the world turn away from the sun :)

Planning a trip to Broome and cape leveque with 2 teens for a week in July holidays.
We have no 4WD experience.
Is it worth a 2-3 night stay in cygnet bay farm and visit kooljaman and possibly do a cultural tour. Not sure how challenging the drive would be.
Or base in Broome and take a fly/drive day trip that visits the area and includes a viewing of horizontal falls?
Thank you kindly

What are the road conditions on the Broome to Cape Leveque road now October 2018 please
Written October 1, 2018
Quite good. Sealed for most of the way and then dirt but smooth; because it's maintained by grader from time to time I'm told.

I read that the only petrol station on the cape is located at the One Arm Point Community. Is this still true? As for getting day passes and permission to get into certain areas, we get those when we arrive right? How does that work? And thank you for any insight. :)
Written October 26, 2017
Hi,
sorry - not sure if you need the answer any more! But - there is also fuel available at Djarindjin 24/7 swipe system at both communities.
Thanks

Which months of the year is best to visit Cape Leveque? In the reviews people have mentioned closed roads and campgrounds that are packed to the brim. I was thinking of May or a June visit? Thank you for any insight. :)

We will be finishing a cruise in broome April 2017, and will have no transport of our own. What is the best way to get to and from Kooljamin/cape Leveque.....would want to stay a few days. Cheers

Try hiring a car from Brrome Broome Car Hire - as they will allow you to take the car out on tagalong tours. this will give you the most flexibility during your stay.
Otherwise I would suggest broome Transit as they come up daily and are a very inexpensive option and $70.00 each way. (search Cape Leveque shuttle)
