An interesting place to visit for tourists to see some ancient buddhist worship, some caves, carvings and paintings on the rock. New additions have been made with a
giant statute of the standing Buddha. Also has a Hindu Temple to the Kataragama
god. Steep steps to climb, no footwear and should be respectfully clothed. Magnificent
view from the top of the temple.

A Buddhist temple with a rich history. This place is a prime example of the work of ancient Sinhala Buddhist people. Temple is resides on a rock and you can find many caves too. You can find writings on caves and carvings which dates back even before the birth of Christ. It is said that Giant Pussadeva who was a leader in King Dutugemunu's (First king to unite Sri Lanka under one ruler) reside here. After the war , he became a monk and writings on stone carvings provide information to prove this now.

Temple has a history(As far as I know and studied) nearly 137 BC. Giant Pussa Deva (One of the Great 10 Giants In Great King Dutugemunu's Army) rewarded this village for his service to the King. After several years of Ruling the village became a monk and offered the village to the Buddhist monks.
Nice place to visit. Should climb near the pagoda and can see a nice view. recommend to go there early morning(7AM-9 AM) or evening after 5PM
