The Village of La Hiruela
Sep 2014 • Couples
The Village of La Hiruel, in the Sierran north of Madrid, is rate in the top ten prettiest villages in the Community of Madrid. I must admit, the village itself is pretty. Perhaps, it was the cloudy day, perhaps it was just an unfortunate bit of bad luck, whatever it was the place did not impress me.
The village is just below a pass through the mountains at about 1400 meters in altitude. Hidden away in a secluded valley between to ranges of mountains. The valley is natural sheltered and full of fruit trees of all types, peaches, pear, plums and more crowd the valley.
It seemed like a ghost town. The people who were present didn't seem friendly and the restuarant, though well presented seemed very over priced.
The drive was over a very narrow mountain road, would I return on a sunny day, probably not. I was not truly taken by the place. From my prospective, though much more crowded, Patones de Ariba is much more enjoyable and interesting.
