In heatwave weather, it's time to climb the Ventoux to enjoy a good breeze and a 360-degree panorama.
Don't hesitate if the road is open because I've already broken my nose.
The road is good even if it turns a lot. Spare a thought for the brave cyclists who face the giant of Provence.

Beautiful views amazing experience the roads

My husband cycled up mont ventoux starting in bedoin.
Myself and the kids drove up in our vw t6.
Although busy as it was July after the tour de
France it was a great experience.
The road up is surrounded by a mixture of woodland and mountain. Not too steep until you reach the very top. Safe barriers and plenty of space to pass. The views are breathtaking .
I was very nervous to drive up prior to coming but as long as you drive considerably and patiently and be aware of cyclists you will be fine !

We went to Brantes for the market. It was huge! Great selection of produce, bread, cheese, meats and a wide variety of other stuff also. Lots of people but there was a large parking area a couple of blocks away.
Stopped for coffee and a pastry, nice break.
Saw a bike shop and considered renting a bike to ascend Mont Ventoux but then rationality prevailed. Probably need a year of training to be able to do it even slowly.
Beautiful but curvy roads into Brantes, lots of cyclists just on the roads to the town.

I do not recommend this site!!!
With my partner and my 6 year old son we came to visit this place last year in the summer. We wanted to see La Chapelle near the summit. Seeing a flock of sheep leaving with the patous in the opposite direction from our path we thought we had the path clear….and no…4 other patous (Anatolian shepherds) appeared from behind the chapel…too late to turn back…despite our behavior adequate in the face of the patous, they attacked us violently, without warning!!!! One bit and made my son fall to the ground with his jaw above his head!!!!
while another bit me relentlessly on the buttock!!!
It was a man higher up who saved our lives by whistling several times, which distracted the dogs!!!
This person had just been bitten….
A group of people were blocked in La Chapelle, surrounded by these same dogs when we arrived!!!! They were able to get out after our attack!!!
Cases of bites are very numerous, and so are the complaints that go with them!!!
They even attack cyclists and create accidents, they go to the store higher up!!!!
And guess what…. Nothing changes….nobody cares….the gendarmerie, the mayor of Bedoin, the breeder (whom we met) the justice system….the Mont Ventoux park itself…..
nobody cares….
no security measures are put in place…..unfortunately it seems that they wait until there is a death to take measures!!!
It is sad !!!!

Magnificent landscape, the downside comes from the fact that the climb at Sault is polluted by a minority who think they are on a Formula 1 circuit, and who royally mock the vehicles arriving opposite. It might be wise to firmly dissuade them. There are circuits for that.

If you're planning on driving to the base of Ventoux before cycling up it - parking as it happens is very easy and free. Before I started my trip though I struggled to find much information about the best places to park on the web so hopefully this helps:

Parking in Bedoin: on Route du Mont Ventoux, on the east edge of Bedoin is a large and free car park, opposite a petrol station (Garage des Lavandes in google maps). This is the perfect place to park, as the name suggests the road the car park is on is the one you need to follow up the mountain. Useful to know there is a public toilet very close to the south west corner of the car park. Follow the road at the south west edge of the car park about 100m to a small square and you'll find it.

If you are in the vicinity of this mountain then do yourself the favour of visiting it. It is 1909m or some 6263 feet high and it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to drive up the 20kms but the views are staggering. It is one of the famous mountains of the tour de France bike race and consequently you'll see many cyclists attempting the climb. As nike says - just do it.

Well, it's very high, very rocky and ticks all the boxes that confirm it's a mountain. As it was created millions of years ago I find it difficult to justify a lower mark or complain about it, as perhaps it could have been taller. But if it had been, my wife, who suffers from vertigo, would have pulled me limb from limb had it been any higher as it terrified her as it was. The drive up was very pleasant (except for the screaming, swearing and hitting) with plenty of places to stop and admire views from different places, and also take some air to deal with the motion sickness because I enjoyed the twisty bends too much in the car. Much disrespect to all the French drivers who insist on sitting SO close to your bumper on the way back down when you inevitably get stuck behind a flipping motor home and can't overtake it when the road is only 3.5m wide. And MUCH respect to all the cyclists who made and make it to the top, you deserve a free slap up meal when you get to the top. Unless you're doping, in which case, you're just a lying cheat. But as it is, you get some sweets which you have to find cash for in your now very sweaty Lycra shorts. Top marks God and Jeebus, this is a great mountain.

Great view of the surreal landscape. You maybe lucky and see the jets do a low fly over the summit.. Maybe see a few cyclists on the way.

A beautiful drive up a famous Tour de France Climb. Other mountain roads are great as well, but there is something special about the lunar landscapre of the Ventoux (a dead volcano). Some tips.

1. Make sure you drive up the SOUTH Side as it is the side of the Tour de France ascent.
2. Be careful to avoid cyclists, crazy drivers, motorcyclists on your way up and down.
3. It will get cold near the top so where a jacket.
4. Note the statue to deceased Cyclist Tom Simpson near the top of the Ventoux.
5. You'll aproach the climb from the town of Bedoin, the signs for the Ventoux will take you through the town, but you could easily bypass the town and save time on the drive.
6. After your done point the car to Venasque then Gordes and Fontaine de vaucluse. You can thank me latter for one of the most beautiful drives of your life.
