A short sidetrip from Solsona or part of a day trip out of Cardona, this small, but very interesting, cemetery was designed by Bernardí Martorell i Puig, a devotee of Gaudi. Built during World War I, the cemetery is very modernistic, and designed to blend in with the natural topography of the area.

We spent about 45 minutes exploring it, taking photos, and enjoying the natural beauty. The church across the road is worth a few minutes, as well. We are very glad we decided to take a few minutes detour on the return leg or our daytrip from Cardona to Solsona.

Cemetery of Olius is the graveyard located in the little town of Olius, near Solsona, in the center of Catalonia. This graveyard is modernist and it was built in the early nineteenth century. It is one of the hidden modernist treasures in Catalonia. If you like this artistic movement, the cemetery is a fantastic visit. Moreover, close to the graveyard, you can see and visit the Church of Sant Esteve d'Olius, which is a romanic building and has a very beautiful crypt. Beautiful! Also there are several iberians burials in the surroundings of the church.
A little, but complete visit of three periods of the history of Catalonia: iberians, romanic art and modernism.
