Visiting the (replicas of course) Ships and Caravels (in real size) that were used by Columbus in the discovery of America was a very rewarding experience. The ships are decorated with food and other artifacts that sailors carried at the time and some human mannequins. For those who, like me, like historical themes, it's very good. The interpretive museum tells the whole story, from the offer to the Portuguese king D. JoĂŁo II that the trip be made at his expense (which he refused) to the first trip leaving the Huelva area to the description of the others that followed.

We almost did not visit due to a previous review about no ENGLISH signage. We were surprised to be able to converse in English at the ticket booth (1.50 euros per person) receive an English language pamphlet and at every station in the museum read each display in English. The visit was informative and the ships authentic and being allowed to explore each one was a bonus. I would highly recommend this important piece of history to anyone in the area.

The ships were very well done and displays were fantastic. Unfortunately due to COVID we couldn’t go below deck, which was what my husband really wanted to see. The Maria was being renovated so couldn’t go on this. They only charged us €1.50 (half price) because of this.

Excellent attraction, well laid out and very informative. Great for children and adults. Car park across the road free, beware of woman trying to charge if you're driving anything other than a Spanish car!

Everyone's heard of Columbus and his three ships but it's something else to see full size replicas of each one of them. To be able to wander around on the ships is really special as you can get a real sense of how small they actually were. Imagine being stuck onboard for months at a time!
Some of the figures and displays near the ships are a bit camp. but there is an interesting room with documents and small replicas of the boats where you can read up on their famous journey. Who knew a fellow sailor arrived back in Spain weeks before Columbus and tried to take all the glory!
The museum is very much focused on Columbus and his ships. If you're looking for a balanced view on the impact Columbus' journey had on local indigineous peoples of the Caribbean and the wider historical impact you won't find that here. We were prepared to overlook that as what we were keen on was boarding the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria ships, and that did not disappoint!

Whilst some might find it a little kitsch, if you can spend the time watching the audio/visual presentations, and go through the displays in the gallery, you will probably learn a lot about the voyages that were made when discovering the Americas. You will also probably be very glad that you weren’t a seaman during that time! The sizes of the actual ships makes it even more incredible, especially if you have ever experienced heavy seas. Description of life onboard, with grim food, lack of shelter, no sanitation or safety measures, and vertiginous rigging.... these need to borne in mind when you get back into your vehicle, with the prospects of a nice shower, slap up Spanish meal accompanied by your choice of beverage, and your snuggly bed, waiting your return. In addition, we learnt a lot about the indigenous people that the explorers encountered...and how badly they were subsequently treated. Until our visit, we thought hammocks had been invented by sailors. Sadly the rain (courtesy of Storm Gloria) meant that we couldn’t go onto the boats, as this would have added another dimension to imagining life on board. Prices very reasonable, even more so if you are eligible for their discounts.

Nice place, but it was closed for construction and a lady kicked us out with out of temper boxes. We were only able to take one photo and a distant one. At the very least, you could notify us online that it is closed and we don't drive so many kilometers for someone to kick you out in a bad way.

This is a visit you must do. Not only the caravels but also the video is very interesting. Regarding caravels, you wonder how they could go so far with this little vessels! It had to be really hard to travel that way. Regarding video, it is great when they tell all the history and all the stories regarding the discovery.

A great place to learn more about Christopher Columbus and his journey to the Americas. You can visit a reconstruction of the three caravels that left for America. An air-conditioned room presents the expeditions, but be careful, the comments are only in Spanish and English.
Catering possible on site.
Ideal for children between 8 and 16 years old.

If I had just seen the replica ships themselves, I would have rated this attraction as average. Kids might enjoy the place. But For adults, the ships are very touristy. Although it was interesting that the ships had actually re-created Columbus' voyage. However, what made this place stand out for my husband and me was the information in the interpretive centre. If you're not rushed by children or schedules, take time to read about the 4 voyages that were undertaken. It was a totally fascinating story & well worth taking the time to go through it all. It totally changed my perception of history & the 'discovery of America'.

Written October 4, 2019
In order to get in to the ships, a couple of steps have to be mastered. Then you are on the main deck.
With a wheelchair it is definitely impossible to reach the lower deck or the upper deck.
Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend it for a wheelchair.
