Would love to give 5 Stars, but this delightful and very impressive industrial archaeology needs a lot of maintenance and TLC. They lack a sufficient water supply to fill the locks and the locks themselves need attention with one bridge bordering on lethal. The locks are very impressive and initially a lot of work has been done on them, however that was clealry some. time back. The car park has a totally alien tyre shredding type device on the exit side for sthose who might enter the wrong side! The car park has a fee - machine not working (yet again) though. The canal itself is dry although it seems that a section elsewhere has a canal ride operating.

This was my second visit to the Fourteen Locks Centre. Both times I enjoyed the cafe. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is tasty (light snacks only, don't expect large portions). The cafe is also dog-friendly and our labrador was welcomed warmly by the staff and even given a couple of treats by them.
The canal walk is ok, but because the canal is not a functioning canal, the water is stagnant which makes it less pleasant. There are some interesting things to look at along the way.
The car park was free the first time I visited but has recently introduced a pay and display machine, which is £1 for four hours. Very reasonable, although I can think of prettier places to walk which have free parking, so this makes it less likely that I'll return here.

The fourteen locks Canal Centre has good parking, not too expensive, and the centre staff were friendly and very helpful. They supplied us with a map of the short walk. The locks that have been renovated are spectacular but there’s a lot of work still to be done, as you make your way towards the M4. What a feat of engineering to have put it there in the first place!

Having recently visited the amazing locks at Devizes, we thought we would visit here. The locks have gone to rot and ruin, and it is impossible to see that the channel will ever be operational again, given the M4 bridge at the bottom.
Throughly depressing, except for the quite good ice cream, though that wouldn’t Make me visit again.

Best ever Santa visit - this Santa spent ages talking to my granddaughter asking real questions. Present was great - photo was great - staff were amazing. Went in café - good prices for excellent food and tea etc. £4 for Santa inc. a good present and only £1.50 for a photo which staff print off for you - amazing.

Visited the cafe today and enjoyed a cup of tea and cake outside on the table and chairs supplied for customers to enjoy their refreshments in the beautiful surroundings. At 4.30 half an hour before closing, the tables and chairs were taken inside.whenn I questioned if they were closing I was told "no just taking them inside" when asked what happens if more customers came, I was told "there is nobody here " 5 minutes later an elderly lady came and ordered a cup of tea/coffee. She had to go inside and get herself a chair and when the waitress came with her tea it was put on the floor with a jug of milk. The elderly customer had to bend down and put milk in her drink and pick it up and put it back on the floor. I was told by the lady that when she went there last week at the same time, she was told to sit on the bench around the corner. What a way to treat customers who are paying for refreshments and expecting to enjoy it in the fresh air ,half an hour before the cafe shuts.

Christmas Time i took my children to a xmas fayre, waited 45 mins to see santa, with a 1 &2 year old, in the end gave up, on the way out, someone mentioned to go to the 14 locks instead, so I did...
What a magical Christmas Experience!
Everyone was dressed as elves, my children entered a spot the difference competition, (which i later had a phonecall saying my son had won!) it was so organised, and such an enjoyable time for the kids,
I was asked their ages upon paying, they were given a coloured number (which indicated the agegroup of toy they would receive off santa) the elves were ringing bells, and santa let the kids sit on his knee, they enjoyed it so much it put such a smile on my face after the disappointing start of the day, I took my young brother in law who was 9 at the time too and even he enjoyed it!
And on the plus the prizes were fab too!
Cant wait to pop up there on a thursday through the summer holidays as they're having activity mornings and if Xmas was anything to go by, then they'll have a ball :)

We had coffee and bacon rolls in the cafeteria before our walk. The service , food and coffee is excellent and sensibly priced and well worth a visit. Then take a walk up the canal heading toward Risca, the towpath is in first class condition with no mud and very easy walking, the views as you approach Risca are magnificent .

Anyone who knows me will tell you that if I am near a railway or a canal my day is made. I am a great admirer of any Victorian initiative because, lets face it, they put the Great in Great Britain.
My friends who hosted the visit drove into the heritage site,so ably managed by volunteer, our first visit was to the smart building that served as a reception, tea room, bookshop and artefact display. Also posters displayed explained the objective of the charitable organisation that is working hard to restore the flight of locks. The canal walk is beautiful a facet that will be embellished by the achievement of proposed objective. The flora and fauna of the surrounds is the wildlife enthusiasts heaven. There is a lot of work yet to be done but my knowledge of the stoicism of volunteers tells me that they will not be put off until this stretch of the Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canal is restored. My respect.

Can you walk to Cwmbran along the canal ? Fancy walking there and back if possible. Cheers

That’s no problem, it’s a decent walk. The canal does break up briefly just past Two locks in Cwmbran as you near the town centre where it has been diverted into tunnels. You can carry onto Brecon if you like.
