The road to the Reserve is in an awful condition. If you don't drive a 4x4, you'll get into trouble for sure. But all along the road, there are hundreds and hundreds of butterflies. Birds can be a challenge to spot in the high dense forest, but I managed to see several rare and endangered species : from the African Piculet to the African Gray Parrot (this is one of their last strongholds in Ghana). If you have a day, or even half a day, walk around the park, you won't be disappointed.

The guest house is a couple of miles into Bobiri Forest, so it's a very secluded area. Nevertheless, all the rooms are together so we felt perfectly safe. The rooms were fairly large with ensuite bathrooms and mosquito nets.
The food was really good - there was just so much to eat, especially for breakfast! The service was also very good and the staff were very friendly.
It's worth taking a guided tour of the forest to learn about the different types of trees etc.

Nice and clean guesthouse by forest reserve, basic but good food, friendly staff. It's worth yo take a guide to the forest and get to know its secrets. Butterflies are all around, but you'll have to go during the mango season to see more.

We went to this place because of the much-advertised butterflies. Well arriving, we soon understood there we none to be seen. Maybe it was not the season - but that information was not available beforehand. Took a brief walk in the forest anyhow - and the guide went to the biggest trees with signpost telling you their different names - but not much else. Comparing to tropical forest visits (also short ones) in other countries this was really sub-standard and should not be mentioned in any guide-book as an attraction - that is, until real improvements have been made.

The forest - and the guesthouse - was our favourite place of everywhere we stayed during our month in Ghana. The forest is just beautiful - the trees, the birds and the thousands of rainbow-coloured butterflies. It is so peaceful and the sounds of nature during the day and night are amazing. The guesthouse is brilliant - simple but comfortable rooms and best of all are Mr John and his wife and family, who are wonderfully hospitable. His wife is a fantastic cook and so warm and friendly, everything she did was done with love and care. The very best of Ghanaian nature and hospitality. We really wish we could have stayed longer and look forward to visiting again in the future.

There is a guesthouse there. The staff are wonderful and will prepare you breakfast, lunch and dinner. Electricity is between 6 pm and 10 pm. He forest is great for birding ( for full experience organize yourself a good guide ( e.g. Malimbe tours , Ashanti tours) particularly if you you are not an experienced birder. Butterfly diversity is fantastic. If you not an experienced naturalist, the place is still with spending a day and a night. Get woken up in th me middle of he night by tree hyrax or the famous Ngulenku (spelling?) rail. Spending time in Bobiri is a great experience!!!

COME MID APRIL - EARLY MAY TO SEE BUTTERFLIES. But if you want to see some butterflies and get knowledge on Ghana’s medicinal trees, the forest, the bamboo then come here between March and May. 10 GHC for Ghanaians 20 or 30 GHC for Non Ghanians. John was our guide and he was wonderful. There is a small village before the sanctuary you can pick up some local fruits and veggies!

Don’t hesitate and stay at Bobiri Guesthouse! The nature is wonderful, the hosts become your family and the food is excellent. Rooms are very spacious and a steal at 70 cedis per night. We learned a lot about the forest, it’s trees (40 meters tall!) and numerous butterflies.

We got a nice tour by the friendly and knowledgeable botany student-intern 'John', who told us a lot about the different tree species. We saw some butterflies but it was not the best season for them. Also we heard a number of birds, but since we were late in the heat of the day, not too many.
The place is beautiful and I think they are doing good word here, in terms of nature conservation and research. I had an interesting talk with Christian and his brother, who were doing research into forest regenaration after bushfires. Nice and knowledgeable guys. Do pay a visit and thereby support this place!

There is still enough forest here to make a visit for the nature lover to enjoy. The rough track to the visitor centre from the entrance to the forest makes for a wonderful walk enhanced by bird song and the immense tropical trees. Much work has been done to encourage exploration and understanding of the natural history to be found here. Trees in the woodland in front of the visitor centre have been labelled and nearby, walking trails have been marked out. The ‘Butterfly House’ could have been very worthwhile but it has sadly collapsed for having been built of the wrong materials. Butterflies do indeed fly free and many visitors come especially to see and study the butterflies. It was saddening to encounter a timber lorry taking away a massive tree trunk that would have been a most ancient and majestic tree. It would seem that timber has priority over conservation. Such habitat destruction will blight the future of this wonderful forest.
