Be sure to "lock-in" your fishing trip reservation with a credit card deposit.
There are many fishing venues that are convenient to the cruise ships. Be sure and check with your cruise ship before booking trips that are not reviewed/ approved by your cruise director.
Good fishing and enjoy your vacation.

We’ve been on several fishing charter excursions.
Just two weeks ago we chartered a boat in Alaska to go salmon fishing.
We’ve chartered a private boat to go crab and shrimping .
So… we are not new to private charters. At all.
This was the worst experience ever.
The captain is supposed to engage with us. Let the kids try doing something. How about let them touch a pole, put on a lure. Tell us what lures they are using. Or maybe even tell us about the island. Or the equipment . Anything would have been cool to learn or actually touch and do.
Not here. I assure you this guy doesn’t even know our names. He never asked.
He puts us on a boat, starts sailing, and he and a teen he called his first mate just start putting on lures themselves and dropping the lines in the water. We.just.sat in silence.
The first mate never even spoke with us either.
We just had no choice but to stay out of the way while they were doing all this.
Then all the sudden he says “now we wait”.
So we troll the ocean for an hour. No bites. And still… no conversation. Zero. My husband and I would ask a question. He’d answer. And that was it. No reciprocal conversation at all. Eventually we stopped trying. Every once in awhile he’d say “here fishy fishy”. Can’t make this up.
I had to literally ask… “what are we catching?”. He says wahoo. Great.. helpful.
My kids were just sitting there. Not the captain or the other teen even talked to my teens. Not once. Completely ignored.

After 1.5 hours of not catching anything …and virtually no conversation, we asked to go back. The waves were high. I was a bit queasy but not enough to turn back. I only asked to turn back because it was very obvious the trip was going to continue as is. Just trolling the ocean with no fun. Silence.

Again… we have been on several private charters. It’s not even about catching anything. We honestly don’t care. In Alaska we caught zero fish but it was a blast being out on the water for 6 hours, learning about the sport, about Alaska, and even about the salmon.
Crabbing was hilarious too.
If all you want to do is catch fish, then maybe you don’t need anything else… like a captain or a first mate who talks?
But if you want anything engaging at all… Do not go.

Blue sky, indigo ocean, cool breeze, in the chum, three dolphin (mahi mahi) pectoral fins iridescent blue, wahoo, blackfin tuna, bonito, mackerel, rainbow runners and robins. While trolling on board the Sea Wolfe at noon we catch a 40 lb wahoo. The vast open ocean and sky alive with Shearwater, Blue-footed booby, flying fish, long tails, tuna rolling on the surface, a huge bluefin tuna jumping in the distance. Captain Russell and mate attentive to us as they work the wonders of the Deep Sea Fishing experience. The best we've experienced! If you want to have a repeat performance leave the message "Gone Fishing on the Sea Wolfe with Captain Russell and crew, Somerset, Bermuda".
