An armoury museum is very dependent of the objects’ restoration quality. Unfortunately the Parola Armoury Museum, which is full of very attractive objects, many of the tanks and other vehicles cannot be found other places, but so much material being stored outdoors and subjected to all natural forces, this has had a strong impact on the vehicles displayed. Accepting that this is a museum of little means, the solution is normally to depend on volunteers and good neighbours – and the area holds several military establishments with qualified personnel. We were a group of military veterans from several countries, some of us with museum background. We were amazed of the number of vehicles displayed and of the information given. But as stated, conservation is a must as well as display. Favourite? The part of a train, on its rails on top of the area. How did you manage to get it up there?

I am not too much into tanks and stuff, but I needed to spend and hour and half while my wife had a meeting. It was very good, nice selection of tanks and armored vehicles. Lots of info in English and nice service from the lady on reception, I had a great time and would recommend visiting. Took me 1,5 hours

My partner is very much into tanks so he very much enjoyed himself. Spent quite a few hours here. Plenty to see. Nice cafe for a bite to eat and drink. Also purchased a few items for the gift shop.

Really big and spectacular tank museum. There are probably about 100 tanks in the museum, some of which are in the outdoor area. There is also one special tank (T-26 from year 1933) in the museum, the only surviving tank of that type in the world. A couple of hours in the museum goes so fast because there is so much to see.
There is also one armored train in museum.
The children especially liked the tanks where they could climb on or go inside.
There is also a café with fantastic jelly donut on sale.

An easy 1 Hour trip from Ylojari (Tampere) as traffic was good. Our boys (10 & 12) were immediately engaged in all the museum had to offer. Every item in the collection had translations in English, Swedish and Russian. There were two vehicles boys could go into and one tank to climb on. The outdoor exhibits were also well done and walking the length of the armoured train was something else to see. Overall a great 90 minute to 2 hour stop when in the area. Pair it with the church at Holy Cross Church in Hattula for a good afternoon. If IItala is open that could make a day in the area.

Museum fee is 7,5 euro. But most outside tanks are not good shape at all. Tanks which are inside are almost side by side, so you can't take decent photos. Also it's weird that museum crew said 3 time that remember that you can't ever use your photos anywhere. I was like what the he**. Yeah it mean that you are not allowed put your own tank museum photos to your facebook page, or instagram etc. Only can keep your own pc or phone files and watch by self. That's sick!
So people who decide to go visit Parola tank museum, remember that if you take photos you can't publish them nowhere...
Area is small, so I would say it take 30-45 min to check everything. Most interesting thing is armored train (which is also bad shape).

As a former officer and a tank lover I was extremely surprised to find such a great collection of rare tanks in Finland. Most of the tanks are pre-war built, so it is extremely to find them in these days. The majority of military vehicles are Soviet and German production lines with a few "hand made" Finnish tanks, which were successful enough also.

This museum is an absolute must to see for any history and especially military history lover.Though it was very interesting for my wife also who isn't at all a military history buff. The museum contains an excellent collection of tanks,AFVs and anti-tank artillery pieces, some of them rare and some unique.Besides you can find there some amazing war artifacts like pictures painted by soldiers/amateur painters during the Winter War,personal items of Finnish officers etc. Moreover you can climb into some AFVs or atop a Leopard tank. There's also a good military articles shop at the entrance and a cafeteria.
Great museum and my gratitude to the Finnish army and history enthusiasts who collect and maintain in great order all those remnants of the past wars.

The most interesting thing - this museum represents a good collection of Russian (USSR) tanks (especially legend tanks of WW II period) - and you can hardly meet these tanks in Russia.
Also - some German tanks.
For my 14-year daughter everything there were very interesting.
Thanks to Finnish army for such collection!

Parola Armour Museum is situated about 110 km north of Helsinki near Hämeenlinna. It is easy to reach by a car but you can get there from Helsinki by train and bus too.
Collection consists of armoured vehicles used or captured by Finnish army . Most of the vehicles are outside on a hillside but there are also two halls jammed with tanks etc. The vehicles in the halls are really near next to each other so taking good photos is not too easy. Outside there is plenty of room around tanks. There are lots of interesting types of tanks rarely seen in other museums. Some of the tanks even show damage received during WW2 battles.
There is a cafeteria and a gift shop. During winter snow covers tanks outside the halls so go there during late spring, summer or early autumn.
