Worth a stop

Arquato del Tronto is yet another Italian hill town off the beaten track that you can have as a tiny universe all to yourself. The leafy walk up to the Rocca offers panoramic views without the distraction of tourists. There's a kid's playground on the way. Even better, renovation of major buildings around the central square is almost complete.
