We did a very interesting 2.5 hour township tour of Khayelitsha. In excellent English, our female guide introduced us to the lives of the locals there. You get an honest picture and everyone takes the time to explain you. Very interesting and in our opinion a must do during a holiday in South Africa!

We enjoyed our street art tour so much. It was a lovely walk through the colourful streets of Woodstock with Shameelah and Almaya her little sister who was adorable. Shameelah was very friendly and aims to please. She wanted us to see all and didn’t mind that we went a little over time.
I would have like to meet Juma!
I was wondering about the security issue!
I was also waiting for the water which was meant to be included but wasn’t forthcoming??
I recommend this activity! I’ve been wanting to do it for so long and glad I finally did

We just loved this tour! Lucky as we were we stumbled apon it on a blogpost while we were searching for some cool streetart. The tour was totaly awesome. Our guide took us through the streets of Woodstock and had so luch to tell about every single piece of art, that we exceeded the time limit by more than an hour. Listening to the stories behind the art, the history of Woodstock itself and the changes that are already beginning left a big impression. We were licky to meet our guide's family in there house where we were greeted with love and joy. We can not recommend this tour enough. Bring time and an open mind and you will not be disappointed.

We had booked the bicycle art tour in Eoodstoch. Way too expensive for what you get. The bicycles were of poor quality. Even without gears, which is not pleasant to cycle in a city with many height differences. We cycled from Breestreet to Woodstock and that's where the cycling ended. Turned out to be quite a hike. Not really interesting. Boring stories.
Ultimately we had to book our own Uber back to our departure location.
Completely overrated here. Not recommended.

If you're thinking about doing a township tour but not sure for whatever reason, do it! I contacted Juma because I needed respondents for my masters thesis in Khayelitsha. At first, I was a bit hesitant because I had heard a few negative stories about the township and I was planning booking the tour as a girl alone. However, my worries turned out to be unnecessary!

Juma is wonderful person and as described on the website, he promotes sustainable tourism. Therefore, it was very important to him that the people we would speak to that day, would be left behind in a good state. For me, this meant that after the interviews I would give the families a financial compensation for their efforts. Once in the township, he showed me all the good parts (which are unfortunately less known), stayed with me the whole day, helped me with connecting to 7 wonderful respondents and translate their answers and explained me all the details of the daily life and the built environment of Khayelitsha.

There was no moment where I felt unsafe and I think you can't go to Cape Town without visiting a township (with a guide such as Juma). The city center is nice, but in these places the real people live their daily lives. I will never forget this experience. Thanks so much Yuma!!

I received a tour from Saliegh this past November. I am finally getting around to writing reviews for my experiences. He was absolutely wonderful! I learned so much about the art and community in Woodstock. I told my students about the experience and everyone who has asked me about my travels to Cape Town. If you are ever in Cape Town, you must find some time to do this tour.

I returned to Cape Town to visit after many years. This time bringing my young son and some friends. Everyone agreed this tour and the wonderful community in Khayelitsha is the highlight so far of the trip. Thank you for welcoming us into your homes and giving us the gifts of your stories.

Such an incredible experience! This truly is the way to get to know South Africa. Our guide was Aby, and she was extremely nice, resourceful, helpful, and fun. One of the highlights of our trip.

We got to know Khayelitsha through the experience of the people that live there and contribute to the community. Their stories, their Ubuntu lifestyle, their passion and creativty, are very inspiring! We felt very welcome and left with a warm heart.

We contacted Juma through his website and arranged to combine a township tour with the nightlife tour. We also asked him to arrange transportation from our Airbnb, which he did at a very reasonable rate.

Juma is a serial entrepreneur. In addition to his tour company, he has two bicycle shops, a sandwich shop and several other small businesses in Khayelitsha. He starts the business, gets it going, hires local people to run it, and does it again. He empowers the people to take risks and try things out. He is developing entrepreneurs. But his most visible enterprise is street art and gardens.

Nomonte, our guide, is a young woman, born in Khayelitsha, dynamic and enthusiastic about the future. Juma and his crew have been painting the corrugated metal houses to decorate, reflect the culture, train the artists and protect the houses from rust. We were on the ground here, and stopped in people's houses to see how they live. It was an eye opening experience, one that every visitor to Cape Town should see. And Juma's tours are the best way to do this.
