Relax on the patio beneath the palms. Great ambience. Interesting 4 wine flight included the 400NZD per bottle Stonyridge Larose 2021 rated 97 points by James Suckling. Reservations a must to dine in the vine covered terrace.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 22, 2024
- Cazan12412 contributionsExcellent service and food...mediocre wine (sorry)Living in France, I have high expectations when I dine out especially when sampling wine. I took my niece here as a treat to have lunch. The service and the food was excellent (French chef), we were planning to do a wine sampling tour but if I am to be honest neither my niece nor I rated the bottle of wine that we had for lunch. I know it is NZ and not France, but I have never paid to sample wines in France. Maybe my expectations were too high? Would still recommend as we had a beautiful afternoon.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 16, 2024

We pre-booked and paid for a Fullers Wine and Dine deal. Waited over an hour before my wife went to find out where our meal was, could not have dessert (dessert advertised on deal wasn't aviable), then missed our bus and had to pay $54 taxi fees! When I complained , Fullers "passed the buck" and Stony Ridge then offered a complimentary meal deal, knowing full well that we would never take this up as we were visitors to the island - probably never to return again. When one analysed the "deal" there was $40 unaccounted for too!

Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to review online, rather than replying to our response.
However as mentioned in our reply email we did apologize for the slightly longer wait time due to staff shortages currently but also wanted to welcome you back to give you a lovely experience, it was not clear that you would never be able to return.
If you would like to discuss further please don't hesitate to email restaruant@stonyridge.com :)

We were a party of 3 out to spend our afternoon wine tasting. This was the third of four stops on our ad hoc Waiheke Island winery tour. We arrived around 3 p.m. without reservations looking to do a wine tasting. Without reservations we could not get a wine tasting. Your seating options were a picnic setting (blanket supplied) under the trees, a picnic table under a patio umbrella or seating in the restaurant/patio. Lunch service had just wrapped up and we were able to get a nice table on the rail of their covered patio. We were able to negotiate a flight of red wines and with the wine, we also picked up an appetizer. As the server delivered each of the wines we were given the background of each. Sounds a little bit like a wine tasting doesn’t it.?. The grounds of this winery and the venue are stunning – pictures loaded. It was a visit with good wine, good food, great service in an impressive setting. We HIGHLY recommend this winery for your own wine tasting tour.

Lovely view over the valley and vineyards. However, I had checked the website on the morning of visiting; when I got there the tasting wines had changed and the price of tasting had increased! Whilst they didn’t honour the wines/price on the website, they brought me an extra tasting wine and apologised which I appreciated. Please could keep your website up to date and then there won’t be any issues!

We’ve been travelling in NZ for 12 days with some great experiences and people along the way. Unfortunately this was the only disappointing one. Limited wines available (sold out), very expensive meal not well cooked, limited care factor. Visit Otago instead!

If you are from Manhattan, say, you are likely to find the Kiwi attitude to service not what you have come to expect. The New Zealand attitude to life is not make it happen, let it happen. The New Zealanders are genuinely hospitasble, but they are very laid back. It's a caso of "don't worry, be happy." We liked the wine at this winery, it was very palatable.

Hi, we were extremely dissatisfied with the so called rules!! The owner does not want to serve chips with the mains!! Really, a bit pretentious also pizza not allowed to be served inside again pretentious! 200g steak was over cooked and when we complained the chef told the waiter to tell us it was cooked perfectly ( what a joke and he did not come out to face us either). With the prices you charge I would expect better, having said that the food was amazing overall…..place lacked atmosphere but maybe just a quit Sunday. Have eaten there in the past and had a much better experience.

Hi there,
Thanks for your review. Firstly we have never served fries on our menu and we also don't have them available because it's not the style of menu the chef wants at our veranda cafe restaurant. Secondly I have been told that you did have one of our yoga deck pizza's for entrée at your table. The reason we have 2 separate menu's is because we treat them as different areas, the restaurant is a la carte and outside we have more of a snack style, they operate from different areas. I'm sorry about your steak, however I also am aware we replaced your meal and got the desired level of cooking you liked. I'm glad overall you enjoyed the food. Please feel free to message me at restaurant@stonyridge.com to discuss further, so next time you have a lovely experience with us. Warm regards

My colleagues and I joined a Fullers Winter Wine and Dine Tour and we chose Stonyridge as the winery to visit.
It was essentially a free and easy tour. From the Waiheke Ferry Terminal, we took the Explorer Bus to Stonyridge. It was a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was fairly crowded.
We’d managed to get a sofa seat with views to the valley, which was nice. Food was a lunch platter for sharing.
It was fun watching all the activities around us. There was a small wedding party at that time. Weather was great.
Overall we had a fun time at Stonyridge.

Very disappointed. We were booked and fully paid in advance for lunch and wine tasting with a party of 13 when my husband and I caught covid. We both cancelled with over 24 hours notice and the others still went. They will not give us a refund, even for the wine tasting, and have not answered any of my emails. They are obviously only interested in the money and not good customer relations.

The very worst wine tasting I have ever been to. DO NOT GO THERE.
We entered the reception, were kept waiting for ages, then simply dumped at a long tressle table in a noisy dining area, kept waiting again, then 3 tots of wine and a card were dumped in front of us and the waiter left. That's it. That's your wine tasting experience for you. No quiet area to talk or enjoy the wines, No expert to talk to. No water to clean your pallet between wines. Not even any indication of which order to taste the wines in. For 20 dollars an absolute rip off.
I guess they think because they have a good reputation for wines that they dont need to care. Well I can tell you that I will never ever buy a bottle of Stoneyridge wine.

We went for a wine tasting.
The Argentinian lady who conducted the tasting was extremely knowledgeable about New Zealand wines from the different regions but also about the Stonyridge wines and how they compared.
Indeed, the wines sampled were excellent and this extended to the Pinot Noir which we generally dislike. The samples tasted were generous but not excessive. After all, it was a tasting and adequate for the purpose.
Of course, the wines were available for purchase.
