The stave church of Rødven is idyllically situated on a side arm of the Langfjord. It can be reached in about 30 minutes from Åndalsnes. With the distinctive supporting beams on the outer facade, it is a typical representative of the stave churches of the so-called Møre type. The interior design and layout is worth seeing. The entrance fee of NOK 100 is eligible. After all, these jewels must also be entertained. Because we were the only visitors, the young lad also took 10 minutes at the till for a private tour.

Found out by chance that this was on our way so stopped in and it was open. Lovely old building with a lovely Norwegian young lady to explain its history to us. Open 11-4 everyday in summer.

This is one of the last STAVE Churches in Norway. Well worth the visit only a few kilometers from Andalsnes.

Visited as part of a cruise excursion along with a visit to the Troll Wall. These were in opposite directions so there was some doubling back on the coach trip. Not really a person who visits churches (modern or otherwise) but another trip I had booked was cancelled last minute so this was the alternative.
There are less than 30 of these traditional stave churches left in Norway but they were once the main style of church. Whilst this one can be dated back to the 1300's there was evidence of another smaller church on the same site going back to the 1100's. The new modern church is across the road and was not part of our tour. We did get to go inside the old stave church.
If you like visiting churches or medieval buildings then this is definitely something you should visit.

This was part of an excursion from our cruise ship and the drive to Rodven was through some lovely scenery and the church is close by a beautiful lake. The stream running to the lake by the church as just starting freeze over and it was interesting to see in parts the water running under a thin film of ice.
The church itself is very small but well preserved and full of delightful details making it well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We drove to Rødven after Trollstigen. The road was very picturesque, first along the Romsdals fjord, then around some lakes and another fjord whose name I don't know. Rødven Stave Church is a Møre-type stave church which main feature is the exterior support beams. I thought they were installed recently as part of reconstruction efforts but it turned out to be false, the church was built this way back in the 12th century. A very nice uniformed guide gives a good presentation upon request. Interesting interior. Climbing up to the gallery is allowed.

Saw the sign on the drive from Molde to Åndalsnes and we’re so happy we made it there!
We thought it was closer but the entrance is on the opposite side to the car park.
Inside he entrance there was a lovely local girl who advised us she could give us guided tour with the entrance fee. Well it was more then worth it.
The history and stories and details she told and showed us were fantastic! It was so great to hear how things were in the old days there and all the quirky stories and legends!
The major highlight was when she said we were allowed to ring the bell!!!!!!!! It was very cool!
Was so impressed with the info she gave us and to see how passionate she was about it’s history.
If driving in the area it’s a must see!

We visited this lovely traditional church which sit beside the fjord.
Apparently there are only about 28 of these wooden churches left in Norway, this one dates back to the 1200s.
Only quite small but very quaint , you can see that a long time ago the inside was brightly coloured.
The guide was very good and explained how the church was built.
There were people working in the grounds and the place is very neat.
Well worth a visit

On a cold and wet summer day we thought this would be a good stop before going to Andalsnes.
After going through Eidsbygda there is an 8km winding, narrow and bumpy road to get to Rodven.
Getting there 20 minutes after it closed and the poor weather meant we had the place to ourselves.
The location on the grassy slopes of a fjord is dramatic and the newer church across the road is also worth a look.
