- ktotTel Aviv, Israel232 contributionsManage your expectationsIts a nice drive, but only if you make the day or half-day out of the the whole archipelago. For example - start a day in Bud or Molde, progress slowly across the Atlantic Road itself, stop in the visiting center and take a stroll, build a stone tower near the sea, stop in Kristiansund, visit the old German WW2 forts in Bud and Kvalvik - that sort of itinerary. Otherwise it is just a drive, and in terms of Norway not even THAT scenic. It is ok to be in that part of Norway and NOT to take that drive:).Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 22, 2023
- SteveTraveller1255Perth, Australia116 contributionsPretty drive but underwhelmingOK. It's great to follow the coast. But Norway is full of amazing scenery. I expected a number of iconic bridges, but it was disappointing. The hump bridge is cool, if not a lot smaller than expected. There is a care close by which is very small. The walkway is nice and very easy access. Wouldn't go too far out of my way to visitVisited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 11, 2024
- BigJeff L1,496 contributionsNot very enjoyable in the bad weather! To be honest I was expecting much more but with the exception of the humped back bridge and a couple of other points of interest this was fairly standard stuff. The weather was pretty bad which meant that being out and about on foot near the bridge was not an enjoyable experience. At least that had a small cafe nearby that served lovely cake and coffee!. With that said though the walk around the gantry behind the cafe did provide some interesting views of the landscape.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 9, 2024
- Chris MWetherby, United Kingdom1,576 contributionsA very good scenic drive demonstrating considerable construction achievementsWe travelled along the scenic "Atlantic Road" which links the mainland with islands across part of the Atlantic Ocean - hence the name. We were on a coach tour from Kristiansund to Kvernes. We stopped at the excellent visitor centre and viewing area at Eldhusoya, prior to crossing the Storseisundet Bridge, which is probably the most impressive on the road. The road and scenery are definitely worth seeing but probably only as part of a tour including other areasVisited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 30, 2024

Driving through on the ocean surface like this, over Storsteinbrua, the bridge that looks like it ends on top going into the sky, was a nice experience. We stopped at Eldhusøya and walked the obligatory stroll on Svevestien that is a soaring path of 550 meters around the island. I guess this experience can be more challenging when the weather forecast is different than that lovely sun that followed us on our trip.

A very cool coastal road in Norway. But also one of the busiest roads that we drove in Norway. It is obviously a tourist attraction, and had gained traction since its appearance in James Bond, however it was much much busier than any other part of Norway that we visited (all up the west coast from Stavanger to Trondheim). It is still very much worth a visit if you are in the area though!
We had a relatively calm day weather wise and took the opportunity to fly the drone. It really is spectacular from above!

This attraction is not located near any famous locations or cities so a visit often requires a hefty detour. Keeping in mind that the attraction is rather underwhelming a visit is only recommended to people in the very neighborhood.
I will definitely not be going back.

Beautiful scenery and is a blast to drive. The road is much, much shorter then we had hoped it to be. Even stopping along way for photo opportunites it doesn't take more than 30-45 minutes.

After visiting Molde we drove to Bud, the southernmost point of this road. Great views and an old WW2 fortress. The first oart of the rosd winds through a beautiful landscape with great lookout points. The last part is spectacular as it finds its way along the oceanfront with some great bridges.

By coming here with a car, unfortunately it will be hard to see and to appreciate the awesomeness of this road. What an amazing place we had visited we found out late by checking drone's pictures. Right after the most photographed bridge there will be a big parking lot (free of charge) with a nice, well-arranged walking path along the shore with a view over the bridge. Worth a visit!

It is only one small part that was worth experiencing, but nonetheless, it was worth the extension to the road-trip to see this bit - all by the bridge of course.

We are planning to drive through this road and hopefully get good aerial footage next summer.
I see in some posts that there are buses that go through this route. Do these buses make stops for passengers to take photos?
If we opt to drive, where can we rent a vehicle?
Thank you for the information.

We arrive Olden, Norway by ship and have 9 hrs in port I would love to do the Atlantic Ocean Road. Can this be arranged from this port??
Written January 24, 2020
I don’t believe it is possible in your timeframe even if you have a rental car and drove yourself. If there is any delay you would miss your ship. Perhaps at another closer port.

Road trip from Copenhagen to Baden Baden. Want to take a break some where in between. If someone have tried this and know a good location, let me know.

Looks like you’re planning a long trip. Are you sure you want to visit Atlantic road?

Planning a road trip in april end from Copenhagen to Atlantic road and sorrounding area. Is that a good time of the year apart from summer? Also since i will travel with kids, i plan not to drive the entire stretch in one go. Where can i stay on the way, apart from Oslo, have been there several times. Also what could be good place to stay so that we can have good day trips around the atlantic road area?
Written January 14, 2019
April can be a little early for touring around the Westcoast of Norway in my opinion. You can still get snow and ice. If possible, I would try a little later, like in middle May. If you do that, make sure you have reservations for the nights of May 16 and 17, but you could see how Norway celebrates their Constitution Day which is colorful and fun. Until the exact month of travel is known, it is very difficult to set and itinerary. Kristiansund is kind of a interesting place to spend the night before traveling the Atlantic Road. You could proceed to Alesund after that as well. If you travel late enough, you can plan a trip to the famous Geiranger Fjord and that's also a great place to overnight, but you have to check road conditions on getting there. Have fun.

hi folks! im driving from Kristiansund and would like to know the names of the main /must do viewpoint stops along the way on the atlantic road? thank you!

Don't worry, wherever there is a good place to admire ocean panorama or road view there is a parking. In the most beautiful place (near the odd bridge end) there is a big parking, toilets, coffee shop and a gorgeous passage by the seashore, to walk on and take pictures (and rest a little watching the beauty of nature and Man's work)

What direction is more scenic driving the Atlantic Road?
Written April 14, 2018
The actual Road is very short so we drove it BOTH ways! There are several places to stop and walk and take pictures, have a coffee, etc.
