- Celsa DCalgary, Canada30 contributionsGreat way to spend an afternoonThe welcome and wine tasting with Sofia was fantastic. She did a great job explaining the wines and giving a choice of which ones we wanted to try for our 5. She asked if we wanted to pause our tasting which we did so we could join the tour and then we came back and finished the tasting and had a bite to eat as well. We purchased the muscat of spina wine and enjoyed that bottle in Santorini a few days after. We had a really enjoyable afternoon visiting Dourakis Winery.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 21, 2023
- good_antsDoha, Qatar644 contributionsNice wines, very hospitable, great location........all adds up to a 5-star winery visit! The five wines we tasted with "Papa Dourakis" were all very nice. Well balanced, high-quality, with unique elements and notable influences of this unique terroir. It is easy to access, approximately 7 minutes drive uphill just off of the "E65" cross island highway. We did not have an appointment, but sauntered up just before noon, and we were warmly welcomed by the patriarch and whisked into the tasting room. He simply asked what we'd like to try (including "his favourite") and talked about the notes and qualitative features of each wine. We left about 40 minutes later with smiles on our faces, a hint of warmth & glee in our bellies, and two bottles of fine wine, all for about $40 [Canadian]. Highly recommended!Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 13, 2024
- Adam D3 contributionsIncredible experience at DourakisWe had a wine tour and tasting booked at Dourakis and the location and service exceeded all expectations. The tour was interesting and informative, and the cellars are unlike what I have seen before, carved into the mountain, a very traditional and authentic winery. The service was great, we were looked after well, recommended fresh menu options with the food being incredible fresh and delicious. The wines in the tasting varied and were quite different to a lot of wines I have tasted so it was great to try some local grape varieties. We then chose to try some more wines by the glass where we were helped to decide what to pick and also given tasters before we committed to buying a glass which was really helpfully. The traditional orange wine has to be tried, it’s like nothing else I have tasted. Overall if you want a fun, informative and delicious wine tasting in an idyllic location then look no further.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 7, 2024
- Bart D47 contributionsThird visit but still surprisingWe visited this winery for the third time. Two years ago we took the 8 wines Connaisseur tasting and were surprised about the wide variety of the wines. Last year we lunched at the winery and choosed somes wines by the glass to dicide what are our favourite wines. And now, for our third visit, my wife took the 5 wines Signature tasting and I the Connaisseur tasting. I didn’t expect any surprises any more, but thanks to the professional and friendly presentation by Despina we discovered new flavours in the wines and at the end we are an even bigger fan of this Winery. Winetastings recommended, good food, good athmosphere, nice guided tour in the cellar, and, off course, fantastic wines.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 28, 2024

- Chris HNorthwich, United Kingdom70 contributionsGreat lunchtime activityContacted the winery to book a tasting and tour. Arrived before the allotted time and we were allocated a table. We tasted five different wines and ordered a cheese platter and some water. Tasting area is tastefully decorated and is elegant. The wines were a good selection and the tour was fascinating. This was a great event for a warm day, as everything is under shelter.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 6, 2024

We booked the Signature Tour which at €15 per person was fantastic value.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 27, 2024
- Debora A1 contributionBetter than ManousakisWe went there without booking a tour, on a spontaneous road trip. The staff was super gentle and gave us some wines to taste (try the orange one if possible). We ended up choosing a nice bottle to bring home. In my opinion, the wines there were much better than in Manousakis Winery (where we did pay for a wine tasting). You can also buy some Dourakis wines from supermarkets in Crete.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 29, 2024

As we finished our hike much sooner than expected, we decided to drive up to the winery and see if it was possible to do a tasting earlier than our reservation. If not, we would just buy some wine and drive back. Everybody was seated at the terrace, so we sat down and asked politely if it was possible.
The guy was so unfriendly, like he didn’t want to host us at all. I explained him that we’d totally understand if it was not possible, but he barely replied and just looked really mad. Then he said we could only do the a premium tasting right now, but ignored us after that. After waiting for 10 more minutes, we decided to leave. Pretty disappointed, i planned on bringing home a few bottles of wine. Would not spend any money here.

Dear 915lise,
we are so incredibly sorry to hear that this was your experience when visiting us - this certainly falls below the experience we aim to provide to our guests when visiting our winery. If you would like to reach out to me I will personally try and make this right.

What a lovely afternoon we had here. Browsing for things to do we spotted the winery the evening before; emailed and very quickly Evie had responded and we were booked in.
Arriving at noon I think we were the first people on the winery, which gave us a very peaceful introduction to Dourakis. We parked in the large gravel car park across the road and wandered into the peaceful rambling garden, moving through to the terrace.
There we were met and seated with some iced water until our tour was ready. We spent 30 minutes exploring the caves under the winery and got a really good understanding of the way that they produce the different wines on the estate.
Back to the terrace for an unhurried tasting of five wines with a simple explanation of each, accompanied by some bread and olives. Part way through we decided to order four or five dishes to share and after the tasting a glass of the favourite wine.
The service was excellent and friendly and we nibbled tasty food and drank wine in the shade of the beautiful terrace - the whole “vibe” of the afternoon was lovely.
In all we spent nearly four hours relaxing here, soaking up the atmosphere. All in all a great way to spend the hottest part of the day.
We enjoyed one wine in particular that we purchased a couple of bottles to enjoy back at the villa.

We booked for a cheese and wine tasting and were rather underwhelmed by the experience. While both the cheese and wine were of good quality, the staff didn't pay us much attention and gave only the briefest description of the wine before leaving us to ourselves. For the price charged (22 euros each) it was rather expensive.

Dear 146katea,
we aim for all of our guests to feel welcomed and to remember nothing but a relaxing day at our winery. As such, I am truly saddened to hear that you felt this way about your experience with us. The last thing we would want is for our guests to feel that we charge more than what we are supposed to. We take pride in sharing our wines, offering some of our favorite locally made products and the quiet of our terrace; and feel as if we have priced this experience at par with our local market. I wish that you had said something to us at the time to see how we could have made your stay with us more enjoyable.
Regards Evie

Poor service, the head server who also ran the store was incredibly rude. We were seated and not even acknowledged for 20 minutes. It was warm and we were not offered water as we waited to order food. The restaurant was not busy and they continued to help other customers who arrived later than us. As a Greek American I was very surprised with the poor service.

The beauty of this place portrays the love of the owner, his family and the people who work there, for wine. Following our tour in the cellar, we had the opportunity to taste five different types of wine in the picturesque yard. The quality of wine is very good, and we did enjoy it. Also, it’s easy to reach the winery by car, as there are signs and the road is very good; and there’s plenty of space for parking.
We are grateful to Phanis, our wine-tour-guider, who was eager to share his knowledge about wine. We had a wonderful conversation with him and learned a lot of interesting things! Thank you very much for this experience in Crete!

What a gem of a winery and a lovely experience. Great explanation of the wines on offer, adaptable tasting (I don't drink red wine but my husband does) and an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable team. Well worth the 15 euros for the premium tasting, and great to be able to purchase wine from their shop afterwards.
Would highly recommend.
